Once again the title's key to participation!
Often times the things that are the most demanding, also seem to be the most rewarding, raising a child, for example.
What has been the toughest time of your life, and what have you gained (or lost) from it?

It's a long story.
Short story is it took a few years after my son was born before my wife and son were able to move full time with me in Canada. So I and they did a ton of travelling for a few years back and forth from Toronto to LA, LA to Toronto and sometimes we spent many weeks apart which was hard. During that time my business began to struggle and we lost one of our biggest clients which created some financial challenges especially with the cost of travelling back and forth. With business declining, no family around, I spent far too much time in bars with my buddies and started drinking too much.
It was a struggle for a few years but eventually we got everything sorted out. My wife and son moved to Canada full time, I merged my company with another company and took over as managing partner and ran the two businesses, which helped stabilize and eventually grow our business and I quit drinking.
I gained everything I have today by enduring and working my way through that challenging time. One foot in front of the other and eventually you get where you are going.

In my late teens and early twenties, I had to face how alone I was and how wrong I was. It was hard (an understatement really) but if I try to I can draw a line from that time to where I am now.

That's a butterfly-effect'esque story man, awesome to see it play out in real life.
