I’m not a senior citizen but at a recent community game night, someone who is almost a senior told me about a free watercolor painting class/club that meets twice a week at the local senior center.
We decided to go and I’ve got to tell you, it was amazing. It turns out that your elders probably know a lot of things you don’t and they are friendly ;)
The topic of the class (after we painted our pieces) was paints. And I learned a lot of things I didn’t know about the quality and consistency of different paints.
When I got home I ordered these 3 tubes of Daniel Smith paint:
  • Aureolin (Cobalt Yellow)
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Rose Madder Permanent
Some watercolor artists mix all their colors just using these three.
But I didn’t know that at first, so my painting at the event was using some cheap travel paints I bought from Amazon 🤣

I have had a similar experience of surprise and delight at the senior center. My friend took me with her to their weekly music sharing circle, which had a cute name but I forgot it... Everyone went around and performed a song. There were guitars, violins, clarinets. It was informal, sweet, respectful. I played a Phoebe Bridgers song.

Nice! This isn't your first painting, is it?

Nah. I haven’t spent too much time with watercolors though so I’m still learning a lot. This is the first time I’ve tried using the absence of paint as a white area to represent light/snow. Pretty neat.
