Three Dog Night had a string of massive hits in the 1970s. For some reason I never took them seriously, though their success was undeniable. Lately I am coming to appreciate them more. This one was always one of my favorites:

Late to the party today because I've been out and about. I always thought this was Sir Tom Jones. Didn't realise his was a cover.
just checked it and like you I thought it was a Tom Jones tune as he did it with The Sterophonics ... but The Animals did it first in 67, obvs they're a great band; however the cover version by Three Dog Night is much better imv.
Nice one, Jerry knows Vintage!
The animals did it first!?! Well I learnt something today.
Jerry does know vintage for sure!
Obviously not. I never heard the Animals or Tom Jones versions. Maybe we are seeing the differences in British v. U.S. playlists? This is really weird, but listening to the Three Dog Night version this morning made me think of Eric Burden. In fact, it reminded me of the song I chose for tomorrow, which might give it away early.
Sir Tom is a national treasure so it does stand to reason he'd get played a lot over here.
People in the US always saw him as a bit of a joke-a lounge singer who had women throwing their underwear at him. That was until Scorsese's blues documentary came out. He and Jeff Beck burning it up. We didn't appreciate him.
I think we are but that is what makes it interesting...
