RSS is more alive than it ever was

The whole effing podcast industry uses RSS. All kinds of open fediverse and similar apps use RSS.

I use RSS very often, have about 15 sources. Me = Boomer too :) By the way, the reader runs on my Umbrel node. https://apps.umbrel.com/app/freshrss

i made my own rss client that embeds youtube player

this way i can watch my favourite channels without open youtube website

plus, youtube webapp doesn't have a way to organize channels subscriptions into folders and lists, mine does

That's interesting. There are also excellent privacy-focused alternatives to YouTube for both desktop and Android. These alternatives come with their own players and unique ways of organizing channel subscriptions. One such example is LibreTube.

I use it to keep up with webcomics, some small news sites, and some subreddits. It's easy to avoid endless scrolling when your feed is finite and automatically marks articles as "read" when you scroll past them. It's whatever the opposite of a "dark pattern" is.

Same for me. I avoid mainstream media, and rely exclusively on my rss feed to stay informed.

It's definitely NOT dead! PS: readwise had the best RSS client on the market.

People have been saying RSS was dead for at least ten years now. So dumb. Podcasts depend on the protocol. Been using it for years to follow websites and podcasts. I even us it for SN.

I've been paying $2/mo to feedbin.com for years and hardly use it anymore, partly due to social media (SN included) and Readwise. I used to think there was no use for Twitter if I could get all the content I was interested in from RSS, but I think the interaction was what sucked me into that hell-hole.

I pay $8/mo to Readwise and while it has a ton more features, I still prefer feedbin's UI. Readwise is good for notes and it's TTS.
