I think running nodes will always be a niche interest, some might buy the pre-built nodes while it may get built into devices like routers in the future, but I think most would probably not even know they are running one on their behalf with cloud nodes and things like green light.

I think long term we will get things like Home Pods or routers etc. with built in Bitcoin Nodes, Tor Relays and maybe even Lightning Nodes. But this is probably far in the future.
