Howdy 2024! I was really hoping to buy 2024 sats at the stroke of midnight but didn't work out with the fiat conversion so I pivoted to buying 20.24 trudeau cuck bucks worth.

very satisfying to sell fiat for bitcoin, even more so when it's trudeau fiat..he desperately needs to go..

Happy new year! I didn't start the year very well with a very strange nightmare. I usually never have nightmares and sleep well. I was having brain surgery being conscious and they were injecting something with very large needles and suddenly one doctor said . Look, here they are, the bitcoins! Extract them all! And then I woke up with headache. What a strange feeling. I don't know what it means. Maybe I should take a break 😅

Happy New Year everybody. I usually accomplish only a few things on my list, and that's okay. My reach exceeds my grasp.
reply
Every day can be the start of a new year :)
Update: I don't want to pick a fight (okay, I not only want to pick a fight, lol) but saying "In the new year, I will do X" is already the first mistake people do when trying to change their lives.
Changing your life does not depend on a random date. It only depends on you. You can start changing your life right now if you would really want to.
And similar to what Elliot mentioned here at the end, if we think about it and if we're honest with ourselves, we realize that's painful but true, lol :)
Doesn't mean you can't be successful if you pick a specific date on which you start though. I would say it's just less likely you'll have long-term success.

Janus, in Roman religion, the animistic spirit of doorways (januae) and archways (jani). Janus and the nymph Camasene were the parents of Tiberinus, whose death in or by the river Albula caused it to be renamed Tiber.
reply
There's a lot of power, for a lot of people, in significant dates, in mustering their efforts. You may be able to start changing your life right now if you really want to, but most people find it easier to really want to at the cusp of some other change, or in reaction to it.
I am un-ironically pro New Year's Resolutions.

Some 2024 predictions I pulled out my ass:
  1. BTC hits $100k.
  2. Attempts to filter out BRC-20, Stamps, etc. will be fruitless.
  3. Public LN capacity will not grow significantly.
  4. We will see an extended period where blocks carry +10 BTC fees.
  5. Stacker News user count will grow significantly, NOSTR will kind of stagnate.
reply
nostr will stagnate? you mean technically? i think it already stagnated RE adoption
reply
Was thinking more adoption, but I guess the two are related: Perhaps a lack of users leads to less incentives to innovate on the technical front.
reply
i think this is a pretty typical problem for open source projects, and perhaps even moreso with a protocol versus a specific software. Specific software distract from interoperability.
reply
Public LN capacity will not grow significantly.
I see, someone did his homework 👀
Stacker News user count will grow significantly, NOSTR will kind of stagnate.
Shots fired 👀 Why do you think that?
btw, It seems like a lot can fit in your ass
<insert impressive DarthCoin meme>
reply
NOSTR and clients make many compromises to remain censorship-resistant and permissionless, but this currently isn't a big problem for the centralised platforms so the advantage is lost.
You guys are also better at "gaming" the UX to make it fun to post here so people keep coming back (rewards, cowboy hats, territories, etc.)
Lastly, I'm not sure if SN currently turns a profit, but judging by jb55's recent comments it seems like the clients are struggling to find product-market fit.
(If you think my ass is big now then wait til I start doing the squat challenge after I'm done with push-ups.)
reply
Does Damus still run a relay? and if so, then it's the relay, and definitely not the client, that's killing Damus.
reply
jb55 specifically mentioned client in his post so I just went with that:
reply
And maybe that's because his intention was to create a client and not a relay. He mentioned at bitcoin conference miami 2023 that he wanted to stop running a client because it costs so much money. as far as I know a client mostly just costs time.
reply
Yes t
reply
Stacker News user count will grow significantly, NOSTR will kind of stagnate.
I agree. Despite the decentralization of nostr, most of the world is still living among centralization. Looks to me like SN will stand to capture most of the immediate LN social media pioneers before decentralized protocols grow further.

Nothing is stopping you from leaving especially if you are an American. Pay your exit tax and leave to find a place in the middle of nowhere and live your free life. Nothing is stopping you from denouncing your citizenship you can do it!!
That’s what I don’t get with you I don’t want to be governed types. Then don’t be leave!!! Go live in a forest and be on your own
