Thank you for the context, I didn’t realize this history!

Not by strict semver, but it's a convention that started in bitcoin core where the first number was never considered and the 2nd number represented major releases. Core eventually dropped the first number to be more accurate with semver so I wouldn't be surprised if projects like btcd and lnd eventually did too

CLN did a similar drop recently as well, and cdecker left an interesting comment on the difficulty with trying to follow semver strictly anyway with projects like these
