Little know fact, Billy Joel actually helped in the making of this track as an advisor on how to construct it and what events fit where within the song.

Only in an advisory capacity I believe, not in any real musical way. I can't find the interview/article but I'm fairly sure I recall him saying when asked... Reporter : "what are your thoughts on fall out boy doing their own version of this?" Billy : "I didn't start the fire, it was always burning since the world's been turning."
Then he mentioned they'd been in contact and he gave some feedback on lyric construction I think.
