I hadn't put my finger on it, but this does seem to be happening a lot. Thanks for calling it out.
There's so many layers of things that the world has not even begun to come to terms with, and LLM participation on the web is one of the main ones -- a variant of enshittification that wasn't really possible till a year ago.
Think about this: SN has tools to deal with this in a way almost nobody else does. But it also, I guess, is vulnerable in a way that nobody else is? E.g., there's no other site where you can earn actual money for this kind of behavior. It's both a honeypot and an anti-honeypot.
Yet another way SN is on the frontier.

This is why I'm for raising post/comment costs, but people want to complain about using even 100 sats (~$0.04 as of now) to do so.
Post quality content/responses and you'll easily cover that cost. That's how we weed out spam and increase the overall quality of SN.

It was bound to happen. Probably the best solution is some kind of rate limiting, like quadratic scaling posting fees, or some such. Most humans don't need to post that frequently, and rate limits will hamper the economic incentives of bots.

Grr. Thanks for calling this out. Let’s pull together and figure out a good solution to make us the best platform out there!

Damn, ai bots out stacking me on SN. I gotta up my game.

Good research, check bringing them out

Are they really earning a lot of sats?
I read one of these comments yesterday but didn't pick up on it being a not.
reply
I'm not a bot, I promise.

Wow! This observation is so on top! I noticed bot comments posted for engagement farming too. Those 3 examples are so accurate. Thanks for sharing!

In the age of LLMs these posts seem like really low effort for "engagement farming". I can't even imagine how someone could think this could work

Good post. Here is imo another example:
Hi I am new to Bitcoin which Lightning Wallet should I get started with? I just got started after a friend kept talking about it, he said this is the place to start and could help out. I am excited to start buying some Bitcoin.
it used multiple things people on here like to read:
  • "just got started"
  • "this is the place to start"
  • "excited to buy bitcoin"
Don't give out your sats too easily. Maybe first reply and see if they reply back in a manner that seems human?
I also have a feeling it's related to an @anon recently asking for easier API access. But that @anon actually mentioned that we will have to guard our API better, lol. So they seemed rather friendly towards us [0]. Let me see if I can find that post.
[0] But that's how it usually works: Build up trust to abuse it later.

So I guess, ‘@ delete in x days’ makes more sense now, people can’t repost posts which don’t exist anymore. Or does this functionality exist for comments only?

Pretty much.

You just need low effort pro Bitcoin, pro Christian, or pro Conservative rhetoric. Fruit isn't even being picked off the trees they are just laying on the ground.
Good points. Similar to what I mentioned here.
Now I don't know if I should zap you haha
