MacOS isn't Linux at all, Darwin (kernel of macOS) is fork of BSD, completely independent UNIX.

I just guessed that it's some branch of UNIX.

macOS kernel is fork of 4.4BSD, which later become FreeBSD. It comes from NextSTEP era, when Steve Jobs wasn't with Apple.
