"crypto" was used for much longer for cryptography than "cryptocurrencies". The "crypto" part in "cryptocurrencies" literally stands for "cryptography". :)

I named this territory ~crypto on purpose to make everyone aware that we "actual" crypto people won't give up this term to shitcoiners without a fight.

fwiw, you can post about cryptocurrencies here if you want since as far as I am concerned, cryptocurrencies topics _can_ also be about the involved cryptography. But don't expect that is the main purpose of this territory.
