I check on my node periodically and noticed that one of the LQwD nodes had been down for just over a month so I shot off an email to their info address and within 12 hours it's back online! Even this medium-sized node runner appeared to have forgotten about one of their smaller nodes until I gave them a little prod :-)
Moral of the story: consider only connecting to nodes with some listed mode of contact in case you are starting to think about force-closing a channel with fees sitting where they are now!

I've been saying this in different channels the last week or so when mempools stuffing has been a topic. I guess there are no guarantees, but I have a fairly easy route to contact 90% of channel peers, and knowing their character a fair bit and being able to reach out allays fears about a tx floating in and out of mempools or a pending htlc.
Thing is that this works reasonably well out of band but a tighter and somewhat more alert-type messaging integration with lightning implementations, as suggested above, would go a long way. If this was fleshed out in the protocol, it might make the adverse camber of running a node in high-fee environments a little safer for all.

I have had several issues that were resolved by contacting the partner node. Before adding a clearnet IP, I was getting a lot of random offline states from certain channels that had long ping timeouts over tor and 3 of them even fully disappeared from the graph as if we never had a connection (aside from my own node knowing that it existed). I still have one channel that’s dead because they have me on tor only and haven’t jiggled the handle yet—and because the edge is missing from the graph, I can’t force close to get my funds back until they come back online and fix the connection.

We can turn every lightning pubkey into a nostr key and just dm them

This seems like a very reasonable and useful solution. Then each LN node simply runs a nostr client. Is anyone working on that?

Would that be private?
I was thinking about simplex

idk if that'd work, don't think simplex uses secp256k1 keys

This is amazing advice. I also recommend putting some contact info for yourself on 1ml and amboss. At least your twitter handle/email. There are instances where a penalty tx can really screw you out of some bitcoin. But if your channel partner is honest they might try to reach out to you and give you back the funds.

@Blockstream one of my channels to your node has been offline for weeks. Check ya node!

Wait, are you me? I also have a channel to them. It's been off and on a lot, but mostly off. 😠

The past few days I can not see any transaction in my mempool. I tried to fix many ways but still does not work. Do you know what else should I do ?
