Tl;dr: Just like how various cronies tried to shut out open source software in the 1990's, now various cronies are trying to shut out open source AI. We must stop them, again.

True enough, but very, very longwinded.

Honestly, what I can't figure out is why people can't see the difference between sci-fi AI sentience and today's very non-sentient LLMs. It's night-and-day different. The sci-fi models all had a will of their own and goals to accomplish, while LLMs just regurgitate what you ask them about. There are no parallels in my mind and I just can't grasp why some idiots out there think that what we have now could turn into skynet.
