This is mostly moot now, seeing as Apple eventually buckled to public (not Google's) pressure by planning RCS Universal Profile support for iOS 18.
Now everyone wins, except for Google (fuck Jibe, and the fact Signal Protocol-encrypted messages are locked behind a proprietary application).
