I have been a teacher all my working life, so I can say that I was never drawn to entrepreneurship because I was already helping students improve themselves on a daily basis. Entrepreneurship, to me, seemed too onerous. There would be one thousand and one things for the founder to manage, including administrative and logistical tasks, not to mention relationship management with clients and colleagues.
Not that teaching is any easier but the good thing about it is that once I finish my work at the end of the day, I don’t have to think about it during the evening. Also, school holidays are protected time in Singapore. We are “forbidden” from doing work so that we can recharge our body and mind.
But now that I’m in my early 40s, the prospect of being an entrepreneur appeals a lot to me. I think teaching is meaningful, but as I grow older, I feel a greater need to create something that can only be produced by me and leave a legacy behind in the world. Of course, I’m sure when I pass on, some students will testify about how I have made a difference in their lives. But I want to control my destiny rather than leave it to the whims of my students.
I want to take writing more seriously and become a well-regarded Bitcoin writer. Of course, there are many people whose writing is more polished than mine. However, I also think that the pie is large enough for all levels of writers. I will work hard to gain my fair share.
I'm not a teacher but your words resonate with me :)
