But how does it work with actual lightning? You link it to the parents LN node or to whatever LN wallet you like?

Thats a great idea, when I was in El Salvador airport I saw a piggybank made in forms of coffee cup so I bought it for the kids as a travel gift they loved it and they save every time they sell something or make money from us for doing work around the house, when it gets to a certain amount I convert it in sats for them

I like this project but building it might take some time
