A coworker whose intelligence and relationship I respect sent me this video:

I really dislike this video. The speaker gives off a smarmy air of pseudo-intelligence that gets people to trust him. But he uses a bunch of bad arguments. In the bitcoin section, he criticizes bitcoin because it hasn't achieved its vision in 12 years, as if that's a reasonable length of time for an entirely new monetary paradigm. He also commits the association fallacy by criticizing bitcoin because of some unsavory people who support it. He also brings up the energy cost, without mentioning that most bitcoin supporters see bitcoin as a settlements layer, not the daily transactional layer. He correctly points out that the capital cost of mining will become prohibitively high, but he doesn't mention that node runners still control network rules, and mining doesn't give you any control other than writing the blocks. It also doesn't give you more bitcoin, except for the preprogrammed rewards and the fees. He also ends the section by calling bitcoiners gamblers, which I resent.
I don't care if people don't like bitcoin, but it's that smarmy know-it-all attitude I can't stand. It really gets my blood boiling. Someone help me, why do I care so much? Why does it make me so mad?
