Setting up a new bitcoin node or rather migrating my old one off the Pi onto a Dell 1 liter machine today. Here's a pro-tip. Ventoy is a great tool for installing operating systems but it does require you to insert the usb stick into the machine. Was scratching my head as to why my drive wasn't showing up... yeah I inserted the wrong USB drive.

Turns out the fiat in your 401k doesn't belong to you! I guess things have to get seriously fucked up before people start to wake up.
reply
It does belong to you, just that it is a "forced long term savings account".
Many people never manage to save for retirement, so they created this instrument so that by default people are saving some money for retirement.
In some countries you can actually set it up so that you invest it yourself, and you can put it into Bitcoin. Still the same applies that you can't get it until you retire though.
reply
Many people never manage to save for retirement
I understand your point. My only issue is not allowing people to make use of the funds when they need it. Most people don't even live to see retirement. Seems a bit strange that people have to jump through so many hoops just to get access to what's rightly theirs.
reply
Even after you leave the job they don't make it easy to close or even transfer the assets in your accounts.
I thought you were going to bring up the proxy voting issue, when I saw this post. The shares in your accounts aren't owned by you. Whoever's managing the account keeps the voting power attached to the shares. This is how the big banks are able to exert so much policy power over publicly traded companies: i.e. DEI/ESG.
reply
proxy voting issue
Interesting. I had no idea about proxy voting. Its really strange how some of these systems are blatantly designed to benefit the elite. They are clearly giving society a massive middle finger and getting away with all this bullshit.
reply
I only became aware of that issue in the past year. It seems like people would make a bigger deal out of it.
reply
I did that in 2015... had some pension funds. Fought hard for them with the banks and gov. But in the end I was able to take all the money from them and bought all the way BTC...
I told them that I do not want to work anymore and I want my money back. It wasn't easy but in the end I won. FUCK'EM'ALL
reply
Good for you sir. I'm really glad you got your corn out of the system. I know for a fact you have no regrets pulling your fiat out and converting it to BTC. Long live the deskside.
reply
I never really work for anyone ( only a short period of time) so saved all the troubles dealing with these things ๐Ÿ˜‚
reply
Lucky you. I was fooled years ago into this crap. But I wake up and saw the light, the truth. So I dropped my regular 9-5 job (taxes, pension and shit) and start working only for me. Is not easy to break those chains. Now looking back to those years, I understand why so many normies, can't grasp with what am I saying all along. Living all your life in a stupid box / cage, you forgot what really is freedom.
reply
agree - taxes, pension, and these shit are tailored to cage the 9-5, as they are too busy to think are any of these things make sense or not, work and consume all day long.
Is not easy to break those chains
not easy but doable, more people should be self-employed, then you play with your own rules, and with Bitcoin, wow, much more powerful!
reply
Taxes basically allow countries to build common infrastructure like roads, public parks, lights, etc.
Whenever you are selling a good or service, you are using these public goods.
You are selling it to people that live in that country, so the country provides your clients.
You are using the footpaths, electricity, etc.
All those things are paid with tax.
No man is an island.
reply
I agree with your reasoning but then governments needs to use those funds for its designated purpose. In my country there's a lot of corruption. So much money that's being designated for infrastructure projects are being funneled to the pockets of politicians a and their buddies. What's even more strange is how people continuously vote for those same politicians. Madness!
reply
LOL another one believing those lies... Please stop defending taxes. Taxation is theft. Game over. If you want to pay, pay them, but don't force me to be robbed. I simply don't pay them. What you gonna do? Nothing. I simply do not comply to be robbed.

Well, good luck building your own independent Internet Service Provider to post here.

Morning stackers! As discussed the other week, here's the first post in the meta-experiment around the Broken Money book club, part 5.
Trying several new things here. If you're interested in the topic, check it out. If you have meta-feedback ... well, there's not a good way to give that yet. I guess you could reply to this comment, or on the post itself?
(I want to create a 'container' post for the posts I plan to make, but decided I'd do that at the end, so I could collate them together and have that post serve as overall discussion. You could hold comments till then, too.)

So poor ol' @orthwyrm would be doing almost 400 push ups a day!

Oh my original goal was to hit 100 days (or BTC = $100k, whichever comes first). Not planning on doing more than 100 / day.
Will start a different challenge if BTC doesn't hit the target by then

Oh I'll be nearing 100/day end of Jan anyway lol guess it doean't matter

BTC miner under your desk
Some people are finding unique ways to make use of the residual heat released by BTC miners. This image shows how someone is heating their bath water with their mining rig. https://video-images.vice.com/articles/5afc7aa1f3cc4c0009ce4c56/lede/1526496876977-l5goioK.jpeg
