Check out bitcoin mining this Thanksgiving with our 500 sats mining test drive:
  • 3 hours of hashrate @ ~88 TH/s
  • Includes a mining pool account (Braiins pool)
  • All the hands-on support you need
We want to introduce more bitcoiners to mining -- plus, if you give us some feedback we'll zap you some extra hashrate.
great way to explain to the fam how bitcoin works.
  1. txs propagated through p2p network
  2. txs are collected and batched into blocks
  3. miners compete to publish those txs into a valid block (often as part of a pool) 4.anyone can participate
  4. get paid for the work you contribute
  5. be your own bank

For some reason I just can wrap my head around what this is.
We pay 500 sats and in exchange, you route 88 TH/s to BraiinsPool on our behalf for 3 hours? And if the pool finds a block while our effective scoring hash rate is nonzero, we get the payout? Is that right?
reply
That's correct -
You mine at Braiins pool for 3 hours, and get a payout if the pool wins a block during that timeframe.
It's a bit of fun on Thanksgiving and we'll ask everyone for some feedback and give extra hashrate this afternoon.
reply
Can you route the hash rate to an existing braiinspool account?
reply
Hmm this promo is intended for folks new to mining (w/o a pool account yet)
If you already have a pool account, you can buy hashrate through Rigly auctions or instant mining
reply
Makes sense. Thank you!
reply
It works well, but just be mindful of the minimum withdrawals for whichever pool you will be using.
Also, you may want to use Luxor or F2pool instead of Braiins. See this: #299891

@evanbaer I created a bitcoin mining territory

I think one aspect that folks should be aware of is Braiins Pool's 100K sat minimum payout (with 10K sat fees for payouts less than 1M sats, IIRC). I can't say for sure how many sats you'll earn with 88 TH/s running for 3 hours (maybe none, based on the pool's luck), but just be aware that you'll likely end up with nonredeemable sats in your Braiins Pool account. Just an FYI to newbies!
PS: If this minimum payout has changed, please correct me!
Edit: Source
reply
Yes, this is correct!
With Braiins pool's share scheme -- Pay Per Last N Shares (PPLNS) -- you're not guaranteed a payout like with (Full) Pay Per Share (F/PPS) pools, which do pay the hashprice in sats/TH/s/day worth of work contributed.
Also, Braiins has a 0.001 btc or 100k sats payout threshold (all pools i'm aware of have payout thresholds)
Braiins however uses a fixed payout fee for under 0.01 btc or 1M sats (which is unique to them and not great imo).
With Rigly's "test drive" you're bascially paying 500 sats to try out mining. It's not necessarily going to pay dividends, but still, for a quarter you get real hashrate and could also potentially make a buck's worth of sats if you're lucky and Braiins finds a block, so there's that. Notice however, with 3 hours of hashrate you are v. unlikely to meet Braiins payout threshold.
reply
Yeah, this ^^^
The test drive is a simple way to try out mining. Meeting the pool payout minimum is another matter.

Sounds like fun, I'll give it a try.

Well, this was a cool experience. As a non technical person, the onboarding was relatively easy and I was able to setup my account in just a few minutes.
It's quite exciting to have your "own" mining hashrate even if it's for a while. A great way to know more about the mining process and get started.
Braiins dashboard is quite comprehensive and intuitive, and the training material is very helpful. I just had some issues trying to follow the instructions to add my address but I was eventually able to do it by myself.

Thanks for all the sats!
reply
Agreed. Cool format and a lot of the admin setting up accounts on both Rigly and Braiins is nicely taken care of. A good insight into the basics and more technical side of mining esp for those (me!) that are not so techy. Worth the effort.

Howdy erbody,
if y'all send us product-related feedback on how we can improve our UX and what you'd like to see at hello@rigly.io, we'll send you some more hashrate :)

When trying to open an auction, allow auction to be opened in a new tab/window when left click on auction and choose 'Open in new tab', instead of left click opening a tab/window with an error page, and the auction not loading. Thx!

I would try to see what comes out of this mining

Hey I was having T-day dinner -- you should see the email w/ details momentarily
reply
We're seeing a lot of interest! Hurray!
Please bear with us for any "client side exception has occurred messages, just hit refresh.
Also, since we're in bootstrap mode here, I am creating the Braiins pool accounts by hand behind the scenes, so it may take 5-10 mins to get the email with your mining pool details.
reply
The time taken to set up accounts on Braiins is fine and the time taken for hashing to start is reasonable and done pretty seamslessly. Great work
reply
This is interesting.
Uh oh. Zapped sats and got an error.
Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).
reply
Can I please have my 500 sats back.
reply
I see your payment and I just created your mining pool account
Please check your email and confirm you see your hashrate now
Happy to refund - contact us at hello@rigly.io
reply
Not it's ok. I see the emails now.

WTF Application error: a client-side exception has occurred
reply
I got the same error.
reply
Did you get that on SN or on rigly?
reply
lol I had the same deer-in-the-headlights internal reaction
reply
Lol so triggered but now we get a proper page thanks to you which is relatively soothing.
reply
Now that I think about it some more, I’m surprised Next doesn’t provide a way to configure/customize the OOTB error boundary
reply
Seriously. It seems like it shouldn’t be much of a lift considering all the other ootb error pages.
Their docs imply it’s trivial but that’s not what we experienced obvi
