I for one was never anticipating stumbling across this wild western stacker station, but alas here I am spewing nonsense every single day..And I couldn't enjoy it more!!
Thankful to have found those who enjoy it too :)
What have you done this year that you couldn't possibly have expected? How has it made you smile? chuckle? cry?? rage???
yes, I have gone from a consumer to a maker 👀
If I wanted to have something, I used to search for where or how I could BUY it, quick and simple; But now I would either learn how to do it myself if it's fun, or I would find the right person to MAKE it together, I want to understand how things are being made from scratch, and I'm generally more involved in things I use or eat now, instead of blindly trusting any brands.
reply
Yes this is a big one; i've tried my best to become more creation-oriented as well rather than consumer. Infinitely more satisfying (and cheaper) to knit your own sweater or cook your own meal rather than consumer others'.
reply
or it can be more expensive if you want to create better quality and long-lasting ones!
But generally I prefer learning how to fish or at least knowing the honest fishermen than keep being feed the average or bad fish 🎣
reply
Yep, dont always wanna cheap out but i do want more sats....
Cooking specifically though is the biggest cheat code: cheaper, healthier, better quality, better tasting, everything.

Yes, everytime I cook for myself I am like: I should do this more often ... lol

Yogurt - just started making it. Don't need a yogurt maker or anything, but I do use a thermometer to get the milk to 180 degrees F, then cool it down to 115 before I add the yogurt. It's tasty. Save some yogurt for the next batch
reply
im eating yogurt as i saw this. super food.
reply
yes! one of the super food, and can use it for skincare too 🤫
yogurt + honey + chickpea flavor + turmeric = a nice face mask
I hit my personal long-term stacking goal this year because Bitcoin has been so cheap for the past 20 months.
I thought it was going to take 5 more years to be at this point. Now I'm not sure what to do with myself....
Just keep stacking, I guess.
reply
One can not simply stop stacking sats, it’s a way of life.
I too hit a big stacking goal this year that I set back in 2020, feels very good

I have read a book other than fiction. I do not do that. usually find them boring. I need some level of escapism when reading a book
reply
I’m the reverse. I read nothing but self-help, self-improvement books. Trying to psych myself to read a fiction novel next because I do agree with the escapism benefits that novels bring. I do not need to be productive 24/7
reply
Sometimes you need a bit of distance and there's often a lot of truth in a good story.
If you haven't read it, try The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I saw it recommended on Reddit and IMO it was a very good read.
reply
Not yet! Thanks for getting back to me with a recommendation
reply
I like for example books by: Robin Hobbs or if you want something more heavy and sci fi - try Liu Cixin
reply
need a healthy balance of both:)

Great question. So I’m 43 this year and should be in the thrones of a mid-life crisis. Although I have been a teacher all my working life, my trajectory is nothing short of eclectic (some would say eccentric). I have taught students of all ages ranging from primary school to pre-university. I have taught both locally and overseas.
As I look back at my career, I think I have remained true to myself as I dare to say that all my jobs are meaningful and help put food on the table. So, I have no doubts about the two big M’s in any employed person’s life - Money and Meaning. But since I have dabbled in multiple jobs, I have increasingly come to feel a void inside me. What’s the legacy I am going to leave the world behind with? I don’t need to be famous or popular, but I don’t mind admitting my desire to leave my mark on the teaching field.
So, I was quite confused about how to manage my career these few years. Until I was asked to be one of the conversation leaders for a physical party that the Educational Technology Division of the Ministry of Education was organising. It was the first face-to-face gathering they initiated since the COVID pandemic. I agreed to their request - an ego boost to being scouted - and decided to frame my sharing on “Leveraging ChatGPT in Teaching and Learning”.
Hence, while I wouldn’t attach too much importance to their invitation, I nonetheless felt all the pieces of the puzzle coming to place in my narrative. I have had a fervent interest in artificial intelligence and robotics for a long time. I have kept track of the developments of Pepper the robotic assistant and Hotel Henna, the first robot-managed hotel in Japan. While large learning models function differently from robotics, I find that there is a lot of synergy in these two fields. So I find myself reading up on news of Generative AI. I even subscribed to LinkedIn Learning to avail myself of the videos and accelerate my knowledge of Generative AI.
Next year, I am going to consolidate my experiences and deepen my expertise in ChatGPT and the like because this is how I want to make an impact on the teaching field in my country. I’m quite surprised that I managed to solve this legacy issue so serendipitously this year. It’s like, one thing led to another, everything felt right, and I am feeling at peace and am raring to go!
reply
Awesome to hear man :) gotta teach them bitcoin next!!!
Have you played with custom GPTs yet?
reply
Honestly, too cheap to pay $20 monthly subscription fee haha
Also, I feel like a lot of attention has been given to ChatGPT. But there are other AI chatbots out there like Google Bard

Left a company I loved and worked at for 20 years and thought I would retire from. Had to feel valued. I see value in Bitcoin and the future we are building here! Just keep learning daily. I feel like it’s the beginning of the internet with naysayers. Our future is bright!

I increased my energy and lost the weight i gained in the last 10 years by making some changes in diet and creating a eating window and sticking to it (from 10am to 5pm).

Reached stacking goal Made it to a meetup and a couple of conferences Began the plebdev journey Started mining Started node running Started 3d printing
All kind of surprising
Heck of a year
reply
So many firsts!
Random question - do you feel that there are similarities in Generative AI and 3D printing? I ask because my Co-Form Teacher in school is very into 3D printing, so I think if I know the similarities better, I may be able to help him make the transition more?
reply
Well it would be pretty groundbreaking to find an AI that creates 3d print designs from prompt. Hey 3d gpt, make me 10 flower pot designs.
I haven’t really thought about the similarities between the two, mainly because I’ve been downloading stl files instead of designing stuff from scratch.
But it’s probably an easy sell if your teacher is familiar with FOSS.

Cool, I will relate to him that way. Thanks mate

Loving the question. Stacking goals are reached ✅ Visiting beautiful places with people who are close to me: DONE ✅ Helping my best friend by taking him to his child dream island 🏝️ Helped him to get his dream car 🏎️ Last but not least I also got a new car to myself and being happy to outperform high inflation. I know to many the past few years were as hell but to me it was heaven 🙏 I HOPE YOU GUYS ARE DOING WELL

you've crossed the finish line time to start a new level!!
I wrote a book.
I turned off the TV, phone and other distractions. Sat down with my laptop and just started writing. Hit 1000 words, then 5k, then 20k before I knew it the thing was finished at 70k words.
It's not a masterpiece but fuck, I wrote a book!
reply
amazing things happen with compounded effort, that's incredible!
What do you think helps you keep that creative juice to keep the book moving along?
reply
Good question. I guess it's different for everyone. I had started it and a couple of chapters in I had news that a close friend has passed away. He was a great storyteller, could always tell a tale with great panache. I told myself I will finish the book and dedicate it to him. Everytime I felt lazy or tired I reminded myself of who I was doing it for... It helped a great deal.
Aside from that, the characters and the setting started to come to life in my mind, I wanted to know what happened in the end!! So I needed to finish :-)

Lightning network. I was afraid to use it because of need of own node, lock lots of liquidity, open channels fee, etc. Thant I discovered WoS and being exited everyday how fast lightning is. Because of lightning I opened for myself stackerNews, and open something new soon I hope
