I'm reluctant to get excited about a politician, but Milei winning sure seems better than any plausible alternative.

Rothbard, Milei and the New Right in Argentina
By Fernando Chiocca
"Instead of the usual statist candidates, Argentine voters have elected a self-proclaimed Rothbardian who is calling for radical free-market changes in the nation's economy."

Also, Vax mandates are making a comeback in the US. Here's a first look at some of the indirect consequences that can be expected:

Driving Up Fatalities: Why Flight Vaccine Mandates Would (Likely) Backfire
By Jimmy Alfonso Licon
"As President Biden mulls mandating commercial passengers to have Covid vaccinations, perhaps he should remember that his move would increase the death rate from traffic accidents as more people eschew flying and take to the open road."

reply

I have not seen any news about revived mandates. Do you have a source for it?

reply

That was unintentionally click-baity. I've been seeing discussions of bringing back vax mandates (and not specifically for covid), popping up here and there. I think there's going to be a renewed push for them in particular venues, like flights and schools.

reply

That's a relief! I am in the process of planning a vacation and had paranoid visions of getting locked into my own version of Hotel California for the rest of my life. I began planning a driving route to ES!

reply

I should have had a trigger warning on that for those of you actually lived through vax mandates.

reply

I wasn't allowed to eat in a NYC restaurant for a year and a half.

reply

And now they've probably all closed or moved. Have you ever been to O'Haras, btw?

reply

No. Never have. From the name, it sounds like a classic NYC Irish bar.

I'm withholding my excitement also.

Here's another piece about Milei and why getting into office is only the first step towards a real free market reform:

Milei's Long-Term Victory Depends on Him Winning in the Battle of Ideas
By Ryan McMaken
"Free-market intellectuals, activists, and columnists must never tire of endlessly recapitulating the truth about freedom, free markets, and peace. So long as a sizable portion of the Argentine public thinks the Peronists 'get it right,' no free-market reformer can succeed."
