This is true. But in the NFL, teams shut down players when they want to tank.
There are different versions of tanking.
Once a team has been eliminated, I don't mind if they shut down their stars. Those are major financial assets and the hope is that they'll help you compete in the post season. It's also important to find out what your young guys can do, so that you know where to focus in the off-season.
What really bothers me is when teams enter the season with an eye towards being terrible; a la Trust the Process in Philly. You end up doing your fans, players, and coaches an enormous disservice.

See sports has become more about protecting the assets then just going out there and playing.

I would prefer if everyone keeps competing, but I guess I have internalized the asset protection model and come to accept it.
These guys are competing for titles, so once they're out of contention, they move on towards competing for the next one.
If there were a way to get them to go all out for each game, I'd be all for it.

Fiat money ruined the love for the game. In the early days of sports people played because they loved it. Would work odd jobs in the off season so they can play now you have guys so deep down the nba bench making $10M a year. Or meh QBs making $40M a year. The idea that Daniel Jones is going to make more than Steve Young or Dan Marino is sickening.

Daniel Jones might also put up better stats than some of Marino and Young's seasons.
I don't know what to make of some of the money today, because it doesn't seem like sports is as central culturally as it used to be. Is the money from global reach? If it's due to fiat, why are they benefitting so much from Cantillon Effects?

In a pass happy 7 on 7 NFL sure he Better have better stats. But even with the relaxed rules Daniel Jones is still meh. The game is so soft now.

It's natural for worse QB's to make more money in a more pass happy league, though, right? Not Daniel Jones, obviously, but in general. It's the flip side of running backs getting paid so much less.
I am curious though about the fiat point. I feel like it must be right, but I'm also not sure what the actual connection is. How did fiat ruin sports?

On another note I watched that Thunder v.s Warriors game last night (most of it) and I have moved on from my TWolves fascination to a Thunder fascination. SGA + Chet, I don't know what you do with that.

I think League Pass needs to figure out that neither me nor my VPN proxy are in San Francisco, because I want to be able to watch Warriors games.
I haven't watched OKC play much this season, but they were one of the teams I was interested in coming into the season. Advanced metrics have been painting SGA as one of the best players in the league for a couple of seasons now.

I did. It looks like there's someone who drops an order of magnitude larger bets every so often and totally throws off the odds. I would have taken those odds at the start of the week, but I decided to just stick with my Lions bet.

I figured what the hell. If Lions win I still get half of the sats I bet on the game back but if Bears win I cover my whole week of bets. Why not.
Still early but Goff trying to keep it interesting. tnuts has his Lions this week to stay alive in survivor pool and nifty took the 49ers.
