SN referral is not a real referral. Is more like a "welcome faucet", a little bump to help new stackers with a bit of credit.
referrals are dumb if you think only how to earn sats from others activity
it actually is a real referral.
i think you’re referring to the invite links, which gives new stackers some sats to start with (and should only be given to people you know).
the referral program works like most other referral programs, where you earn a percentage of the sats received by the stackers you refer (paid out of Stacker News’ fee, not the new stacker’s earnings)

please remove that referral. I feel dirty now, earning others sats.
I agree anyways with the invite links to give some sats to new users.

just to be clear, it’s not earning sats that would otherwise go to a stacker you refer, this comes from the 10% fee on all zaps across the site.
so when someone you refer gets zapped 100 sats, 90 go to them (same as every other user), the difference is that instead of 10 going to SN (to be deployed in the rewards pool), 7.9 go there and the other 2.1 go to you.

So, I could essentially create a steady income if I refer enough people.

I think referrals should work in a way that a one-time-credit is awarded to the inviter. I don't think it is actually fair to earn sats from someone else's earnings, I agree with that, because it would then give me an impression of a pyramid scheme kinda system. I might be wrong though
