On the surface, it seems sense to think positively. The majority of us would rather be optimistic than pessimistic, yet the phrase "positive thinking" is also airy and flowery, making it simple to ignore. It rarely has the same meaning in the actual world as phrases like "work ethic" or "perseverance," although those opinions might be shifting. Studies are starting to show that thinking positively involves much more than just being joyful or having a positive outlook. In fact, thinking positively can add true value to your life and teach you lifelong skills that are far more durable than a grin.
People far smarter than me are researching the effects of positive thinking on your life, career, and health. Barbara Fredrickson is one such person.
