The range of price variability has been gradually decreasing over bitcoin's existence. If you plot the price on a log-log chart this stands out. At the present rate, the upper and lower bound of the price range appear to converge sometime in the 2060's. I think this is mostly a function of liquidity and how widely bitcoin is held.
At the end of the day, it's broad adoption that will drive price volatility down, with the global unit of account being the least concerned with this metric. The future is unwritten, but I think price will continue to get more boring in the coming years. However, given global monetary and macroeconomic issues, the path to get there may not be a straight line.
