I came across a post on stacker news that talked about Minibits wallet. I found this wallet interesting because of the combination of lightning invoice and eCash token. But I was discouraged by not being able to back up my wallet properly. I am asking SN platform about Minibits wallet, if anyone had tried out this wallet, should share his experience in the comment section. This wallet also allow flawless tipping of any Nostr profile.
Hi there, I am developing Minibits wallet. Thank you for trying it. As of now, there is not yet fully functional recovery path ready for cashu tokens, however the protocol that would allow recovery of lost tokens is designed and on the roadmap. In the meantime, there is basic append only backup of all wallet tokens in a separate on device sqlite database, intended mostly to recover in case the wallet state becomes bricked due to some wallet or mint error. Until proper recovery processe are in place, wallet will remain beta and I recommend to use it with small amounts or with your own mint. Will you encounter issues, please raise them on github, there is still a lot to do.

Thank you for your response. I will keep trying the beta version. That means when the application is finally released, there's probability that my profile name or details will be wiped out, because I paid 100 Sat for this minibit.cash address.

Haven't used it but I want to experiment with Cashu in the near future; possibly integrating a mint into SN for our stackers focused on privacy.

I know it's been a while, but is this still a possibility? I have been playing around with this wallet tonight.

You mean integrating Cashu into SN because of OFAC?
reply
What I was asking is generally speaking is SN considering ecash? Maybe I didn't understand what you meant in October. I wasn't thinking specifically about OFAC.
reply
Mhh, good question. Things have changed since then. I think running a mint is out of question since we want to move away from being a custodian. But maybe there is still a way to support withdrawals in ecash since lightning has bad receiver privacy. For example, we could send sats to the mint configured by the user on withdrawal and then give the received ecash to the user.
Exactly my point, it looks really amazing but how can someone back up his wallet. That's my concerned.

@calle, do you know more?

Yes! We've been working on seed phrase backups and it's soon going to be available for cashu-ts which is probably the best option to build a frontend Cashu wallet.
