It's Sunday Funday! Thus it is football day and poll day!

If a pro sports team adopted Bitcoin in a significant way (ticket sales, paying players in Bitcoin, offering fanbase rewards in sats, engaging with the bitcoin community etc) would you automatically become a fan of the team even if they were a hated rival of your team?

I am with @siggy47 too. I remember as a boy my mom throwing a Super Bowl party when the bills played the giants. And being told not having school the next day if the bills won. I remember eating the blue and red M&Ms so yeah sports and family are interwoven for me

reply

I remember that Super Bowl. I was in a NYC sports bar and rooting for the Bills. When Norwood missed I was pelted with beer and derision.

reply

Those were some good but inevitably disappointing years for the Bills. I can't believe they lost 4 in a row. You would think the ball would bounce your way once.

reply

Snake bit. I am old enough to remember the 1970s Vikings. The Bills outdid them for heartbreak.

reply

Damn!!! Yeah I’m too young to remember the miss I just remember going to school the next day thus they lost and then went on to lose 3 more in a row! Haha

I like @siggy47 list of teams. I too would never support those, but "true" fandom is also about more than money. I'm not a fan of any sports team because of money, I am because of friends, family, and tradition. Everytime I watch a Packer game I don't think about how they conduct business I think of being a kid and watching games religiously in a Sunday with my parents. Memories like that mean more to me than how the team conducts business.

Perhaps I'm just feeling nostalgic and principles today.

Edit: added "true" in there, I suppose I could be paid some BTC to wear jerseys and attend games, but I'd never truly give a shit about how that team performed.

reply

You're right. Friends and family mean more than anything else.

reply

I said I would support both teams, but there are exceptions. I could never root for any of the following teams even if they slipped me a whole coin: Yankees Cowboys Patriots Maple Leafs Notre Dame Football

reply

Hahaha almost in full agreement but I CANT STAND THE LEAFS and the Patriots. The Dallas is just annoying with this whole America’s team nonsense. The yanks and golden domers are meh

reply

Guess I am a cheap date or have no scruples but I will happily sell my soul for a whole coin. Haha. Maybe not to the Yankees. They need to give me 10.

reply

For 10 I would have to reevaluate. It's like the old joke: We're just quibbling about price.

reply

I think, it depends on the team. If the greasy grimey green bay Packers did that. I couldnt support them but I could at least hope they prove a concept to the rest of the league that the league could adopt. But no I couldn't bring myself to support them.

reply

for a sport that I don't have strong feelings about (football, basketball) I would absolutely become a fan if any team adopted bitcoin. for a sport that I'm already an avid follower of (hockey, soccer, baseball), no fucking way. don't care who it is

reply

Support both.

people > bitcoin

bitcoin > sports
