Last week @matej announced the release of the new very cheap and high quality Trezor Safe 3. The limited bitcoin-only edition device sold out in one day. Why did I buy one right away too?
  • Not because of the rarity of the limited edition
  • Not because of the beautiful orange color
  • Not because of the 21 EUR donation to the bitcoin academy
When I give a bitcoin-only Trezor to my parents or friends, I don't have to worry about all kinds of 💩shitcoins popping up on them somewhere. You can upload universal firmware via command line, but hopefully my parents won't do that. I believe that in time a bitcoin-only device will be offered for all devices by all companies and generally demanded by people. It’s a perfect gift.
I agree. Nice!!! However I wish to have a bitcoin-only wallet available in the store not only as limited edition. Myself personally I would appreciate it for on-boarding newbies while eliminating the complexity of shitcoinery. Having no other option to install different firmware from suite (which for normal people is the way to install firmware) is simplifying process for beginners and keeps the "signal" strong.
On the other hand I understand that it might not be viable from business perspective as majority of people still want all shitcoins available and sales numbers on bitcoin only wallet might be low in global perspective. Plus I understand that Trezor might want to limit decision making paralysis for beginners with many product options.
So I created a question and in the same time answered to it, i guess.

Why was it a limited run?
reply
To celebrate 10 years of Trezor. 10 years from Trezor Model One which is still supported btw. Since the company was founded in 2013 there was 2013 pieces... Another reason was to bring the attention to it.

Personally I just stick with Coldcard for the same reasons
reply
Make sense.. I like Coldcard too. However I see at least these two downsides:
  • It's not open-source anymore
  • It's not that intuitive. Have you tried to give it to some non-tech people?
reply
agreed for non-tech people the UI isn't intuitive.
reply
have you ever heard of SEEDSIGNER? assholes
reply
I was talking about device that you can give to your family members or non-tech friends. Seedsigner is cool thou... I just prefer more robust security model.
reply
this (minus assholes)

The "assholes" is so out of touch here, I find it actually funny.

Well played with the words, otherwise DarthCoin would be back here :P

nice gadget

So why doesn't the company produce only bitcoin devices and firmwares? You don't worry about all kinds of 💩shitcoins popping up on your paying customers?
reply
Because people demand shitcoins.. Interest in pure bitcoin is very limited.
reply
People demand meth. That doesn't mean I'm going to cook it. I have a conscience. 🤔
reply
I welcome criticism. But it's not all or nothing decision. I am thankful that we are creating bitcoin focused products.
In my spare time I work exclusively on bitcoin, but such activity has much less positive impact than working at Trezor.

Yes, users are bit angry when we are removing coins: https://github.com/trezor/trezor-suite/issues/7227
However long term it is inevitable anyway 🙂

Maybe you should to give them clean meth since they're going to get it from someone with less conscience anyway but then it may be laced.
Just wanted to give another perspective.
Not literally saying you should start cooking meth, lol

I can't stress this enough - please STOP trusting any hardware wallet, especially those that support 💩 shitcoins, like Trezor.
It's crucial to question your commitment to being a true Bitcoiner if you opt for a hardware wallet from a company that supports shitcoinery.

Instead, I highly recommend SeedSigner as the ultimate solution, in fact, it's probably the ONLY solution. With SeedSigner, you have the freedom to purchase individual components and DYI. This way, you can ensure utmost privacy and anonymity regarding your purchase.
