Yeah, that was my first thought as well so I completely understand. But what about the fact that fine teas come from China? China is not a monolith, much to the chagrin of their authoritarian government.
Long term for sure we would want to go elsewhere, but as a small business, it is insanely easier to work with suppliers from China.
I emailed 6 or so private labelers in US, NZ, Europe, and 1 responded several days later. They probably charge a lot more than commodity spot prices. Compare to China: if it's after 6 pm Pacific time, I direct message on Alibaba, and start getting instant replies.
Bitcoin wins monetarily as it is the most liquid good. Liquidity in business is essential and most of the world is largely non-competitive with China when it comes to supporting small businesses making things that are not too hard to make.
there are a lot of scams on veg oils.. to reduce costs..
look what they do with chinese honey.. you will be scared for life
Im a chemist by training and always suspect of chinese goods and the US food standarts are THE SCAM.. plus fda DO NOT perform tests or even design them.. Is another scam of the century...
Not sure if you have keep low costs, but definitly would make a bet on European food standarts.. ( theres also some scams, but its a bit more hard to scam).
bet on the following countries: Finland
Ireland
Norway
France
Netherlands
Japan
Sweden*
Canada*
United Kingdom
Portugal

All right, how about if I can get it from India? Found a possible supplier there.

I know... but it's not rocket science. I will test everything with US labs, on every single batch. I will also make sure the supplier understands I will test everything. The assurance on Alibaba means I can "chargeback" if I prove they provided a fraudulent product.
I suspect it's white label suppliers that recognize when they are working with a non-sophisticated brand (I'm a materials engineer), and the brands are unknowingly passing along adulterated products.
It is not about absolute cost, but cost of my time to get a small initial batch of say 1000 bottles to get going.
Even from Europe I would want to do a US lab test since it really doesn't cost much to analyze.
