I've been unbelievably lazy about leaving lastpass, but the impending renewal of my premium membership suddenly created some urgency. What do you recommend? If you need to know more to give me a suggestion, please ask me relevant questions. Thank you.

KEEPASS, nothing else.

  • It's portable, you can take your database between devices. (use Syncthing)
  • It's completely offline.
  • You can choose the interface you want (clients). e.g. KeePassXC, KeePassX, KeePassDX, KeePassDroid, KeeWeb etc.
  • It's being audited by many governments and individuals and is open-source

Agreed, there's no second best

why both?

reply

I gave two options for you to choose. Both are pretty good. They are both selfhosting solutions.

reply

What does the premium level give you that you really need? I let my paid membership expire and the free version works great.

reply

I think autofill

reply

autofill works on the free version.

Also, after several intrusions to their servers, I want to use something else, which would simultaneously force me to organize my passwords

Bitwarden https://bitwarden.com self-hosted preferred

reply

There's a post just read it before that shows you that Bitwarden does track you with google and Microsoft trackers on all platforms, it even records your keystrokes.
Move to KeepassXC!

keypassx

reply

Any particular reasons? I've never heard of it before.

reply

There is no cloud. That it.

reply

Can I distribute it between several devices?

reply

Yes, with Syncthing

Bitwarden is probably the best and close to the UX of LastPass. You can also self host it. If you want to take a different approach without cloud check out keypassx. Get off LastPass though.

reply

After using both personally I think the Bitwarden UX is way better than LastPass.

Bitwarden is decent and free. You can set the password hardening to be extremely slow. I set mine to take over 5 seconds per password attempt with argon.
