Taking the time to learn things that others can’t be bothered with
Avoiding pursuit of status.
reply
Is this an actual thing you think about and act on, or just that, following your nose, you have wound up pursuing things other than status?
reply
Both but more so following my nose I'd guess. Pursuing status is conforming ambitiously ... and I find conforming really disappointing for some reason. It gives me none of the feelings I want to have about myself.

It's funny where you can wind up, if you just keep taking small steps toward things that seem harmless, e.g., enjoying that you're a big deal and doing stuff that would make you an even slightly bigger deal. Years later you look at yourself and find that you've become a monster. Or, less dramatically, a douchebag.
reply
With some pain, I'm imagining being a big deal and wanting to be a bigger deal ... but holy shit I'm in a prison made of other people's perceptions.
Or, less dramatically, a douchebag.
Terrifying!

We all are prisoners. The only question is how well we recognize which prisons hold us.
Or, as DFW said, everybody worships.

You're right! I have not shaken off worship, nor would I want to.

Experiment everyday on everything.
As long as you have even a little spec of interest just jump in and try what you want until you're exhausted.
Every little skill, good or bad, useless or not, become a weapon at your arsenal when you need it.
If it goes well, a day of fun on something seemingly stupid might turn in a life changing opportunity.

By maxing out your credit cards then find ways to pay it back before you get audited.
reply
I knew a guy that would take advantage of the zero interest balance transfer. He kept spreadsheets of all the credit cards he had to manage. I don't know how exactly he did it but after a few years he told me he managed pay off his home loan.
Unfortunately, he lost most of it in a bad divorce, spending it on lawyers.
