what's your favorite bitcoin wallet? and why? (for beginners)
tryna figure out what I should recommend to my friends, I am doing ledger, but I guess that's too much to start with
I'd say Muun is the best for beginners together with Strike for fiat spending. If they start getting more money there, then Trezor with Trezor Suite is quite good.

recently discovered muun, I think it's better than strike lol. strike never verified me

Strike and Muun have quite different purpose. Strike is your gateway from fiat to Bitcoin and Muun is self-custodial open source ln wallet

Bluewallet would be my top pick for the easiest onboarding. It's custodial, but you can swap the server addresses to your own if you want to.

blue is kinda tricky to use imo, not the most intuitive. no?

If you're talking about Ledger, the HW Wallet, for me the trust went down the toilet after the data breach. As for Software Wallets, well without knowing a little about the user and what platform said Wallet is to run on, it's not possible to recommend anything.

yeah, no way I can get beginners to spend 100 bucks on a cold wallet lol. thinking about software wallet. I think cash app is the best so far. open to suggestions tho

There's no such thing as "best wallet" for noobs or advanced users. Each wallet app have its own features more or less good or missing. Each new user, first should start testing 2-3-4 wallet apps and get used to have 2-3 apps ready to use always. I wrote a dedicated guide for noobs here and worth being shared with all those that are coming now into this space https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/bitcoin-be-your-own-bank-think-like

I found Breez really nice. It handles on-chain and Lightning and does some channel magic so you have enough liquidity straight away.

I use Strike for spending fiat and supporting the merchant by they receiving sats. Definitely recommend that!
My on-chain setup is to run an Umbrel node and connect to it with a dedicated laptop which serves no other purpose. On that I use either a Trezor or Coldcard connecting through Electrum. This would be way too advanced for a beginner but it sure is safe!
