• Curious to know how many channels people have found to be a manageable number for their nodes?
  • Are you employing the quality over quantity principle?
  • How do you ensure uptime, if you ever need to relocate, move, take offline your node?
Hopefully can turn into a nice refresher for those looking to optimize their setup.
Regarding num channels manageable: Depends on the hardware/bandwidth your node has. Also, any custom scripts/tooling to manage channels automatically "in bulk" without becoming overwhelming to manually maintain.
Quality is always better than quantity, IMO.
Regarding uptime:
These days I run every node in as a VM in Proxmox. Since the machine is virtualized, I can do live migrations. It means I can transfer the Node VM to another server over the internet while its running. Even the memory is migrated without any downtime.

Thanks for the guide. Saved the migration one for later

  • just a handful. No need for more, unless you are trying to be a pro routing node or have a service that requires it.
  • quality over quantity (the main decision factor is a purpose of the channel)
  • have not had to do that yet
