In my opinion they know exactly what they do. They are watching the ECB falling into their sh.thole and letting the Biden gov running against the wall (ycc) until they are out of money. Watch the capital movement from Europe to the US, german de-industrialization, SOFR (split from city of London) and the unwinding of QE by reducing the Fed's balance sheet. The moment their ally BoJ rises faster, the Euro is dead (it's dead now but a dancing zombie)
I agree that it's probably more about waiting for Europe to break first, than hoping the domestic situation improves. A collapsing Euro strengthens the dollar and offsets inflation without needing to raise rates. It's still a bandaid, though, and they have no real exit strategy.

You know that the ECB is buying treasuries more or less along the yield curve to push down us yields to avoid capital flight and to maintain eu rates low?
