I left reddit in the middle of the block size war

Ironically, Reddit karma will still probably be a better store of value than dollars.

Yeah they've already been doing this to a certain extent in a few different subreddits now for at least a year or more. In others it's been going on for almost 3 years, I know in an ethereum-related subreddit that I've frequented in the past they have been giving out an ERC-20 token, not necessarily as a means for paying people but mainly as a means of tracking valuable contributions and using it to pay forward the governance features for moderation of the subreddit, kind of interesting.
Then there's also the subreddit /r/cryptocurrency which is a ridiculous place full of bots trying to farm their native shitcoin, $MOONS which recently had a pretty big pump in the price when it got listed on a few popular exchanges. I found this out when I had checked on this portfolio website I used to use and noticed that it said I had several thousand dollars I had no idea existed...turns out that the couple thousand of "moons" that I had earned from posting in there a while back had accrued some value over the last couple of months. So I did what any of us would do, I immediately dumped that shit on Uniswap for ETH and then I went to Fixedfloat and swapped that for some BTC. I certainly won't deny anyone, even a bunch of reddit nerds from giving me free bitcoin.
reply
Yeah, I've been paying attention to r/cc for a while now. That forum has always been a bit of a dumpster fire, but it became noticeably worse after the introduction of moons.

🤣🤣🤣

SN is already doing that
reply
What a terrible program. But that's what you get when you're using fiat. If they had stolen the idea properly, they should have used sats.
reply
Lol oh I wonder where they got that idea, surprised they didn't do some shitcoin or stablecoin either, but okay I never thought reddit made much on ads that they could distribute it in any meaningful way but good for those mods, maybe some of them will make it out of their moms basement
reply
This will just lead to full on influencer culture like insta / X / tik tok
gg
nostr / stacker news / no bs bitcoin RSS feed thats it for me!
reply
Stacker News is the best. Can't compare SN with anything else.
reply
I wonder what they'll do wrt that 1099 problem that @nullcount was talking about?
reply
They're using Stripe to handle payouts and tax compliance, plus another third party for KYC.
reply
Wow what a great idea, if only we could do something like that here...
