I've downloaded Phoenix wallet. And I haven't done any transactions yet. Because of the high fees. Any thought appreciated.

What high fees? Onchain?
Those are only when you open new channels.
After that is OK.
You can also set your own fees in settings.
People that come to Bitcoin because they think is free (no fees) or cheap... THEY ARE WRONG.
Bitcoin wasn't created to compete with banking fees. Bitcoin is far way more than just that.

If those fees are for the first time and in order to open the channel, then no problem.
I'm going to try it again and I will be abandone Wallet of Satoshi soon.

You don't need to abandon WoS.

I agree so much with you. Understanding the differences between wallets is great, but since you can use as many as you want without much of a cost really, why not use a number of them?
I see purists waving their node + Zeus and dunking on someone because they have WoS. Well, why not also have WoS just in case your node crashes?

Using those custodial wallets (WoS, Blink, Alby, SN, LNtipbot etc) are the perfect way to HIDE your traces. Keep your non-custodial ones for "other" stuff...
Spending sats is an art.
