Did any of you guys have that a-ha moment when reading "satistics" on menu? I thought "wait a typo... no wait... it's... it's correct... howdy"

Reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, it's great, very dark

Any good? Not read any of his stories. Always fancied The Road though…

Does anyone else read Twitter/Nostr and imagine negative vague tweets may be about them/their work?

I find it a fun random seed for self-reflection. "If this were about me, what would it mean?"

e.g. Replit's CEO tweeted something to the effect of "Companies sink deeper into sunk costs by default" and I began considering what SN's sunk costs are.

reply

I think it’s fair, everyone does it to some extent. I try to make sure only to do that if I am only willing to say that to their face and that seems to help me gauge on whether I should say it or not.

reply

I do the same, but with anything I read online lol
That's normal, I guess... there's no way to expand your practical knowledge without comparing your activities to the others. The hardest part is just separate lessons from pure negativity. That's tricky because, while comparable (companies, in case), situations will differ on all levels.

Oh, oh, I got late with posting this. Got too distracted with notifications and the Pay It Forward Initiative and then some more notifications.

I went for a run today. It took me 31:37 to run roughly 5km.

In German, we actually call it "joggen" not "rennen". I looked up if there is a better translation than "run" (since you don't really run if you try to "run" a long distance or for a long period of time). There is also "to jog" in English. But it feels like this is not used much? Is this more like a trap where you can notice if people use "to jog" that English is not their mother tongue?

Anyway. When I run, I don't try to run for a specific period of time. I try to run a specific route (with a specific distance) with checkpoints in mind.

I do this because I think it makes it easier to "not cheat" by just running very slowly. Anyone can "run" 30min+ if you just walk. Running a specific distance is therefore imo a good benchmark. This way, you can also make a competition out of this by measuring your time.

This always brings me to this question: What is the fastest way to travel a specific distance, therefore optimizing for least time? And what is the most efficient way to travel a specific distance; optimizing for least energy expended?

For example, if we keep the distance fixed, we can expend energy to travel the same distance in less time.

But when we start to target long enough distances (for example, 10km), it becomes obvious that we can't expend maximum energy all the time since we will get too exhausted. And then we will probably be a lot slower since we still have to travel a long distance even after all our energy is already depleted.

So what is the optimal speed for least energy expenditure? And at which point do you start to run as fast as you can to achieve your fastest time?

That's my watch... simple and effective. They say that it's also the al-qaeda's favorite. Could be because it's cheap? Precise? Both? dunno

Well done. Re running - it’s a fascinating topic. I am a lapsed ultramarathoner and can talk for days about this stuff.

I can recommend the book β€˜Born to Run’ by Chris McDougall.

No reason to be bullish unless something bullish happens? And 90% of the threads on SN are not about adoption they are meme threads. Its 2023 and bitcoin cannot survive on memes anymore. Adoption is needed. But its not going to happen? So take care

reply

IMO next influx of capital will come from ETFs (unlocking capital from institutions and retirement funds). Retail is too poor right now. So I agree short-term is crabby / bearish.

The funniest outcome would be if the halving does absolutely nothing for the price. I can sort of believe this because a) supply cut weakens with each cycle, b) priced in, c) mEth tried cutting net-issuance to near-zero and it's done nothing for them. I think it would be healthier for Bitcoin if we stopped getting these crazy cycles.

i think ppl are stupidly underestimating what the spot etf will do

I like it too.
Also in the summer I used to make a refreshment from elderberries flower.

In mid-may and early June, I collect elderberry flowers and let them dry in sun for 2-3 days.
Then store them in paper bags.
Once in a while, almost every week, I do this recipe:

  • in a 8-10L crystal jar
  • put a good handful of dried elderberry flowers
  • 700-800gr of sugar or honey if you like
  • 4 lemons cut in pieces
  • 10-15gr of fresh yeast
  • some mint leaves
  • leave it in sun for 2-3 moving every day the content. Once you see it start fermenting, take out all the ingredients filtering the juice and put it into bottles, very well closed.
  • put the bottles into a fridge for 2-3 days, opening slowly the tap to leave all the exceeding gas outside and not letting the bottle to explode.

Drink this refreshment all summer and you will see that:

  • your liver is regenerating
  • you are prepared for a cold winter
  • your blood is cleansed.
