Just wanted to share a recent experience:
TL;RD: I meet Craig Raw in person. He's the only dev for Sparrow. I was absolutely shocked to learn this. For me, a lowly bitpleb, it felt like meeting a celebrity.
Was at the BitDevs Tuesday meeting in Nashville last week. It was amazing, but that's for another discussion. During the meeting, I noticed a face and a voice that I recognized but couldn't place. This individual spoke up after someone had raised a question/issue related to Sparrow (my personal favorite application). I thought: wait, why do I know that voice/face? To confirm my suspicion, I pulled up a video on YouTube on my phone to confirm... yup... that's a developer for Sparrow I saw on a YT video explaining the features of Sparrow. Amazing, he's in the same room as me.
After the meet, I went up to him to shake his hand and say 'thanks' for the awesome app. It literally has changed my life (again, for another discussion). So as I approached I asked "are you a developer working with the Sparrow team?" or something to that effect, to which he replied "I'm the **only ** developer of Sparrow."
This absolutely blows my mind. The power the Bitcoin, bitcoin, and BTC. One single person can provide such incredible power and autonomy to individuals who wish to take their financial sovereignty to the next level.
Special thanks to Craig Raw for tolerating a noob such as myself.
If you use Sparrow and haven't done so, be sure you donate to Craig's work.

Donated previously, will do so again. Thanks for the reminder.

Have done so many times. What a product!
I've donated to him as well. Sparrow is my go to desktop wallet.
If you want to claim a tax deduction (in US) for your donation, you can donate via OpenSats - Sparrow. OpenSats sends BTC so any fiat used for the donation will be converted to bitcoin and sent to Craig.

Awesome, good to know. Thanks!

So, maybe Bitcoin could have been designed by one person only too. Imagine that ! Bitcoin Devs are the best celebrities. Lucky you for meeting Craig ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I believe Satoshi was a single person, not a group but bitcoin is built on many previous ideas and tech. Sparrow is as well. Not to discount anything about either of them. I can tell you this. If bitcoin was completely new vs. built on many technologies that have been proven over time I would have been way more skeptical of it from the start.
Standing on the shoulders of giants... We all are.

I believe he was one person. As Benjamin Franklin said: "Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead."
reply
Yep, IMO thats the strongest argument.

I sincerely believe Satoshi was a time-traveler from the future sent back to save the world from the destructive forces of fiat.

Sparrow is insanely good software. I still don't understand why that level of craft and care can't be part of the Bitcoin Core GUI app.
reply
I canโ€™t speak for Bitcoin Core GUI specifically, but I know for a lot of engineers, GUI is the least of their priorities and interests.
reply
But Craig engineering Sparrow solo proves some definitely do care.
reply
Absolutely!

Craig is great. Funny enough he doesn't really let other people work on the project, he wants to one man army it.

Sparrow is my favorite soft wallet. I'm surprised that it's maintained by only one individual. Or maybe that's why it is so good? :)
reply
Could be! Too many cooks, etc...

Sparrow is indeed amazing software. We feature and recommend it for all levels because after an exhausting review going through as many wallets as we could, it won out as just plain the best.
reply
Yes, Sparrow launched my Bitcoin understanding. It was key to making me a maximlist. Bitcoin is blessed to have such smart people making the world a better place.
reply
Exactly!! We need to hammer this home more... Bitcoin unlocks the vast potential of a world in which the financial base layer is both open source and secure!

shake his hand for me too next time you see him

If I'm so lucky, I absolutely will

He has built a great product for. I imagine it is more than a full time job just to maintain it, much less add new features.

TL;DR... derp
