Winamp, VLC, Rythmbox, Elisa, Foobar2000... anything that is a standalone app and doesn't necessarily need an internet connection to do its job.

Wiamp? it still around? really? I was always upset because they are a winzoz only software and the only thing I always appreciated was its lightning logo

HOW TO PLAY AND DANCE WITH YOUR MUSIC ANYWHERE!
-
Create a MEGA account here: https://mega.nz/aff=YvakZRq8M2Q
-
Install the Mega app on your computer or phone... or both!
-
Create a folder for your music and upload all files in that folder.
-
Use any music player both phone or computer. But, try to use standalone apps that doesn't necessarily need an internet connection. These are my choices: VLC (best), Groove music, Musicolet (Android)
-
[ Optional ] Install MegaSync and configure it to auto sync your music on your phone. Source: https://metactrl.com Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ttxapps.megasync Apple: No Apple, those are just for eating
You can download music from internet or get from cd's that you own.
I use 4kDownload with links from Youtube: https://www.4kdownload.com

Wow man, it's really a cool setup. Thanks for the advice. I don't want to download music from internet anymore, just because it makes the discovery of new jewels much harder... download the whole mp3 or album to deleted after just few minutes of listening. Happened so many times. Easier to press FFWD and go to the next, if hosted online somehow.

It depends on what you are looking for but mpd works well if you have the music somewhere.

There are many client available. I think the relatively high number of clients shows you how decentralized it is.
I knew someone who had all his music on an iPod. Pretty convenient and decentralized but highly depending on iTunes, and I think SSDs are relatively cheap now, unless you save everything in flac.

I like local files on my local machine.
Not everything needs to go through the internet. And even if it goes through the internet - why should it be decentralized? Just self host.
I passionately and intensely hate what you are suggesting. Throwing tech at stuff that stuff for the sake of more tech is an annoying trend of the last few years.

I wish I could have just a limited db on my local machine... Need new music and love the discovery and listening to new songs

my only physical mp3 player, whatever will be that.
I don't listen too much music online, except hunting new tracks on wavlake.com and zap them with sats if I like them.

Wavelake it's great, but I feel the database still growing, still early!
