The only problem with creating discussion posts where mostly what you are doing is just sharing a link is the duplication checks are not giving feedback to the user that the video, article or whatever was already shared. I can't remember if the search function was updated to also search links from link posts, but many times I have tried to verify that my link was not already, an then ten minutes later when browsing I see another post for that (sometimes same link, other times different link but same article / video, after redirection) existed long before posted mine.
But yes, discussion posts are a more natural fit for SN, whereas link posts are just HN or Reddit with zapping.

Interesting, this shouldn't be the case. Would be nice if you could give examples for links that are already posted but do not show up as duplicates.

yes, search engine is not so well trained in SN. Sometimes I do searches for my own posts (without mentioning my alias) just to see what results will get somebody that doesn't know me or just search a simple guide. I know for a fact the title and the content I posted and if I put it into the search term is not showing up, only after deep scrolling.
Maybe it took time to index, who knows.

also, specific comments are hard to find.!
Eg. if I was looking for a specific comment, even if I remembered half of it, but I couldn't search it back; but I have learnt a trick on this because I usually zap the stuff that I like, and I end up finding it in my statistics! madness.

Searching for specific content is something different from the dupes check in the link post form. I wasn't sure which one OP is talking about but I assumed the dupes check.
Did you search only for posts when you entered the title? By default it searches everything which includes random comments. When I use it, I always need to tweak the filters to find what I am looking for.

I input all the keyword I remembered, then searched it with filters comment + match and couldn't find it 😳 so strange.

SN does a pretty decent job of determining dups for Link posts. When creating a Link post, you will see that the Link had previously been posted in another Link post.
My reply above was addressing how creating a Discussion post that has a Link, there is no dup checking as far as I am aware, to indicate that a Link post (or another Discussion post even) already exists for that Link being added to the Discussion post.
