Genghis Khan implemented laws that reflected his experiences and values. For example, he made it illegal to kidnap women, as his own mother was kidnapped when he was young. He had tremendous respect for women and later made it illegal to sell women as wives. He also introduced gold and silver coins for commerce and is credited with instituting the first paper banknotes. Genghis Khan's laws aimed to bring civility and order to the territories he conquered.
