That's communism. Quite different from European socialism. Sorry, no expert in terminology. But as far as I understand it, many Europeans don't mind that much paying high levels of taxes to subsidize healthcare, etc all while still trying to make good money for themselves. There is only a dissonance if wants thinks from an American perspective. Anyhow, probably better to debate him on this, I don't know enough about it.
