Good Morning Stackers!
It's Monday again! Had a great time chatting with you all last week. I'm in Scotland this week and it got me thinking, we hear a lot of English/American music.
So just for a change, think about the last place you visited. (I know for many Americans they may have not left their country so for you guys, gimme something from somewhere you want to go).
With that place in mind, let's hear what they have to offer!
My offering is a fairly well known Scottish band:
Biffy Clyro - That Golden Rule!
Shill me you tracks!
Note: apologies if I don't get back to your comment immediately, signals a little patchy, but I will get back to it.
Really want to visit Australia and see Karnivool there, seen em a couple times here already

Sending you robot armies 🤖😂 but SN is definitely addictive and refreshing.!
Down the music rabbit hole we go. Where it stops nobody knows.
#250874 there's my thoughts on it. Definitely enjoyed it.
reply
I enjoyed that. It was good. Had a very 90s grunge sound to it. Sort of. If you know what I mean. But the best 20mins of music there is in my opinion Nightwish - The Greatest Show on Earth. That's epic.
reply
Are you willing to choose what I have in my mind?
reply
Karnivool again ;) I think we got some mega fans in here between you and @nemo yeah I'm liking karnivool so far. I'll be checking their catalogue out on my crazy long drive back next week.
reply
Ok not Karnivool but still Australia
Birds of Tokyo (same lead as Karnivool though) https://youtu.be/TkNCO5MXH-Y?si=R4H4j_U58D5tfdCd

One NYC show before they started C.O.T.E. he said "NY I love you but you're bringing me down" an LCD Soundsystem song...funny intro for center of the earth I agree on the epicness

Nightwish not bad, I'll definitely dive a little deeper into their catalog tonight at work after the Jets game...their current and former lineup reads like a hockey roster
reply
You gotta check out ghost love score live at wacken was truly epic. And take a look at their version of phantom of the opera (I recommended it during the covers theme a few weeks back.) Finland I think they're from. But their current singer is Dutch. (Floor Jansen)

Lol I'll throw one from left field, we have this new genre of music called Amapiano, which is super popular in SA, and most new artists either broke out because of it or pivoted towards it
The sound is starting to gain traction with a few American hip hop dudes starting to sample it
Anyway this is one of the most popular ones right now,
reply
Nice. The backing track takes a lot of minimalist concepts, changing slowly, really fits the vibe. I enjoyed that thanks a lot. I'll take a look into the amapiano genre once I get back to civilization.
Meta Music Mondays reaching worldwide, last week we had an artist from Nigeria I think? This week SA. Love the variety.

i've never left the u.s. except a couple times to drink in canada before i was of age. but here's one from my favorite australian band the drones (who have since broken up, the core group formed a new band called tropical fuck storm, who also rock)

Nice! That was good fun. Reminded me a little bit of four star mary.

Let's travel to eastern Canada. Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia (where my dad grew up in fact) and share with you a beautiful song about a father, who is terminally ill, trying to reconnect with his son after 20 years estranged by a wonderful Canadian songwriter, Bruce Guthro, who passed away from cancer last week. RIP Bruce.
Unfortunately, Bruce died at the relatively young age of 62, but fortunately unlike the father in his song, he got to spend his last few months touring with his son, who is also a singer songwriter. Honestly, if I had to go early, I think doing something like that in my waning days would be a great way to go.
(Added bonus- he references the Blue Jays in the song- I mean right up my alley)

That story gave me a bit of a lump in my throat. I get the feeling this is about to turn my already soaking wet "waterproofs" even more wet. Am I going to need something within reach to dry eyes?
reply
Probably
reply
Ooofff that was beautifully painful. Very special track. RIP Bruce.

Lovely song.

It was. Kinda hit me same way alter bridge - in loving memory gets me. Also Blackstone cherry - things my father said. Those hit me like a tonne of lead.

I wanna go to Mongolia and like myself some metal :) https://youtu.be/v4xZUr0BEfE?si=yK21DLVZA57axL1w
reply
The Hu!!! Wow wasn't expecting to have that come up. They're brilliant, I love what they're doing merging traditional Mongolian techniques with modern day metal.
Speaking of Mongolia, I stumbled across a guy called Ummet Ozcan who does sorta techno tracks mixed with Mongolian throat singing, which is really cool!
reply
Yeah, Ummet Ozcan is awesome. :)

We Butter The Bread With Butter (WBTBWB) - Berlin Berlin!
reply
We what?? Haha that's a crazy title. Ofcourse it's Germany! I like that you steered away from the obvious Rammstein, which I love, but it's good to get something really different. Another German band I really like is Feuerschwanz! They're brilliant fun.
The music video to Berlin Berlin was crazy, banana suit, chasing trams. Looks like a band having a good time which is always good to see.
Danke Schön

lol, I didn't know about the music video, haha

Yeah, Rammstein was too obvious and I actually don't like Rammstein that much :)
They have great songs, ngl, but I like other German bands way better. Do you know Die Ärzte? They are even mentioned in the music video from WBTBWB (since they are from Berlin).
Another German band I really like is Feuerschwanz! They're brilliant fun.
Oh, need to check them out :)
Danke Schön
Bitte schön!
reply
I've not come across Die Ärzte. But I'll check them out 👍
Ref: Feuerschwanz there's a dude that plays a Halberd. It's nuts. Das Elfte Gebort might be my favourite track of theirs.

lol, if you dont like Rammstein much, you must be German, lol :)
Oh, did I say that? I meant I <3 Rammstein! lol
Just looked that up since I had the feeling it's maybe more famous in America than in Germany (because of the name for example). Turns out, that's indeed the case.
Do other countries have similar bands which are popular abroad way more than in the country itself?

Travelling through Ireland years ago with a couple of U2 cassettes for company;
U2 - Vertigo
reply
Been a long time since I've heard U2. Vertigo is a brilliant track.

I do go though phases of liking them. Having an album preloaded on to an iPhone were dark times.
Bono on stage saying ‘every time I clap my hands a child dies’… someone on the crowd shouts; ‘stop f**king clapping you sicko’
If you get a chance look up British comedian Bill Bailey do his U2 technical failure sketch from his Part Troll tour. Brilliant
reply
Yes I remember bill Baily's part troll tour! He's such a funny dude.
Dark times indeed, preloaded onto an iPhone, yikes those were dark days.
reply
He is - has perfect pitch as well apparently.
reply
And he can dance! He won strictly come dancing with Oti. They were brilliant and so much fun. Great entertainment.
reply
I don’t watch Strictly but I did hear he won. Maybe because dance is about rhythm. If you can find any episodes of his, now long time ago, sketch show ‘Are You Bill Bailey?’ you see his comedic side on full display. And possibly stoned…
reply
Yeah he's such a talented dude. Absolute national treasure.

Well. Looks like I got a lot of work to do. Thanks for sharing this, and sorry it took me a while to get back to you, I've been up a mountain with no phone signal. The ottoman classical I really enjoyed. If you look back through most of my suggestions you'll notice that my music taste is predominantly rock/metal but I absolutely love classical music and opera. I mean who am I kidding I love music of all types. I'm excited to get started on your suggestions!

I was joking.! but I am learning bağlama atm 🤓
One of the things I am really amazed by the Turks is that they know how to have fun ( even without alcohol, which means it is unnecessary? ), and almost like many people are naturally good at dancing and singing.

That was really cool! Very easy to listen to, great chill vibes nothing to fancy so that the vocals get your attention. Is that Croatian music? I saw in the YouTube description it said deep into Croatia but I don't know if that's just the song theme or the whole type of music?
