Do you think sn need some marketing and some ads to be well known ?

Personally I don't, but maybe I'm being selfish. I feel like a huge influx of new accounts would lower the quality of the experience. On the other hand, I know this is a business. Though I wasn't around, I hear people talking about how bitcoin reddit got destroyed by its own popularity.

I like the way that SN has grown by word of mouth. It's a nice little community

No, organic growth is more sustainable and healthy. That said, I would have joined sooner had I known about it. I think SN users should spread the word.

Marketing = analysing and serving a market. SN is doing a lot of this, carefully assessing new features and soliciting user feedback.
Promotion = advertising and comms to bring in new users. They're also doing this, largely in Bitcoin spaces and fairly quietly. Seems sensible for now as it's best to carefully grow discussion communities. Scaling too fast brings moderation and culture issues.
The real question in marketing terms is assessing the current user base and how they're served vs the future expected user base and what might serve them.

Fountain ads were good. I do think they need to tighten up their social media game though.
