@ekzyis has paid. Doesn't follow instructions well (hell what good bitcoiner does?) but definitely paid!

Had too much faith in authority for way too long
I guess I am just compensating for that now haha
My landlord sueing me therefore feels pretty good
But I'm trying to be clever in picking my battles

Had too much faith in authority for way too long
I hear that.
reply
sounds familiar?
reply
Not for me personally. I was fortuitously or un-fortuitously only ever subject to authority not worthy of faith.
I've seen this in people close to me.

We probably should have paid by invoice instead of zapping, since 10% goes to fees
reply
Yes. My mistake. We will learn for next year. @ekzyis zapped up back the difference so we are whole right now after 7 entries. This account is also getting additional zaps and rewards so I am pretty sure by the time we crown a winner it will still have more sats than the prize pool payout even with the 10% fees.
reply
We may have to alter the winner payout method. We have 7 entries already and 9 other committed parties we are waiting plus potential re-buys for all players and any folks who express interest between now and Sept 4. Prize payout likely will be over 200k sats.
reply
Unless it somehow messes up payouts in some weirdly indivisible way, then I kind of don't mind the idea of partial buy in going back to the community rewards to be dispersed among other users of the site. Now 10% is too high and considering the winner (unless it's GrayRuby) will then also take a 10% pay cut upon receipt.
Secondarily, that would be an interesting feature, the ability for SN to change the fee based on certain events that may be deemed value generating for the site. Like I deposited funds specifically for this contest, fee generation that may never have been captured unless for competitions or events such as this. They can develop a site/section for community contests and competitions that are non-custodial and may not violate some online gambling laws. Kind of how I believe the poker site Blockchain.poker used to get around certain regulations. However, I also know nothing of the legal area I am talking about. But setting lower fees taken on events may encourage activity and potentially draw new users.
reply
Agreed but will make sure the prize pool is whole. Hopefully through zaps and rewards to NFL survivor account over the course of the contest. But I don't like the idea of shortchanging the winner (which will be me anyways) because of an oversight on my part. First year, first event of this type, I expect some bumps along the way.
reply
Yeah, I'd be willing to contribute a few sats if we needed to make up the difference.
I may have been a bit into the whiskey last night typing my response, but I am a bit stuck on the idea that SN or Nostr could be used for community competitions such as this. Where perhaps you zap your payment/entry fee into a verified/escrow/multisig account, the entry fee is lowered or completely zero, and then a low fee is applied to the winner distributions only. I think Blockchain.poker was legal since it was community members putting up the prize money and not a centralized entity, so anyone can create a game/competition and anyone can join. That could bring more users to the site/increase engagement and fee generation for SN, plus a larger fee reward pool for users. Idk, I just like gambling/competitions and I like the idea of it being more personal/social than gambling on some sportsbook.
reply
I think things will evolve. I am looking forward to seeing how things go with this pool. I could see someone eventually standing up a site hosted on nostr where users can create their own pools (doesn't have to be football- could be an office pool on when your co-worker is having a baby).
reply
Was anyone else dumb enough to forget to adjust their sat settings after paying the buy-in. Nope? Yeah I figured as much.
PSA: don't forget to set your tip amount back to normal after paying buy in.
reply
if it's a one time big tip, wouldn't people use the custom tip via long press?
reply
Smart people likely would. Honestly never use this feature and I think I was aware of it discovering it by accident once but didn't recall until you mentioned.
I appreciate it though because my laptop seems to have a sticky zapper and sometimes I give people an extra 10 sats. Not that I mind but this feature is better than changing the settings or clicking a bunch of times.
reply
That’s what I did
reply
so you are officially smart by @grayruby standards
reply
I may be dumb in some regards but I like to think I am just channeling all that mental energy to the most important things like winning the pool. haha
reply
Keep dreaming. You got no chance pal.

Come for the survivor pool stay for the witty banter between me and me.

The turd is in the punch bowl.

Will players be able to see other participants entries? Ie if 3 people pick first than the 4th to enter a selection will already know players 1-3 entries?
reply
Welcome. Payment noted. Selections will open immediately after the list of games is out, up until the deadlines (as per rules) so yes you will see who everyone is picking. There is no rule saying you can't pick the same teams as other players but remember you can only use a team once. There will be many cases where we will probably get a bunch of the same team picked each week.
reply
can't wait to stack sats with my winnings
reply
Does this mean you have paid sir?
reply
yes, paid and dmd you tx id over X
reply
No problem. I just wanted to confirm you had paid because I got about 15 entries within the span of a couple hours and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anyone.
Do you mean nostr? I didn't get a DM and I don't have an X account for grayruby. Nostr DMs don't seem to work well for me. I got a DM notification yesterday but there was no new note there.
Anyways, that's irrelevant. You are in.

And my axe!!!

You did tag us, after all

Shit I forgot to switch my sats settings back. Haha Merry Christmas
reply
Back at you! I didn’t realize what happened here… lol
reply
I appreciate you sending it back but I was fully willing to take the L on this one. I totally forgot there was a custom zap feature. I never use it and only discovered it once by accident so I actually went in to change my tip settings to 10k to zap the buy in. Haha, yeah I am pretty dumb. Probably why it took me two weeks to get the rules out.

Every day we all learn something new :)
