Buy-ins for the Survivor pool will open today on the Survivor account. Will post shortly and send my buy-in today to get us started.
But first, indulge me for a moment. The 49ers traded 3 first round draft picks to move up and draft Trey Lance in 2021. He got hurt in training camp in 2021 and then came back as backup to Jimmy G. Started 2 games while Jimmy was out and played ok, not great. They named him starter in 2022 and he played 1 game, which he was not very good in and then got a season ending injury in game 2. Brock Purdy emerged as QB1, Sam Darnold was signed and has now been anointed QB2. So the guy you traded three first round picks for and has played a grand total of 3 games and 1 quarter for you is now likely going to get traded for scraps?
I understand sunk cost and all but that stings. I also understand why the 49ers are doing this. Their SB timeline and Trey Lance's timeline don't match up anymore. Shanahan isn't going to revise the Offensive gameplan for more deep passes and a more mobile quarterback for a QB2 or 3 so I get the decision but damn that was a price to pay.
Shill me another epic draft pick fail (any sport) so I feel better about this. Haha.
Sats for all
Cheers, GR
From 08-18 the Jets drafted in the 1st round Vernon Gholston, Dustin Keller, Mark Sanchez, Kyle Wilson, Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples, Dee Milliner, Sheldon Richardson, Calvin Pryor, Leonard Williams, Darron Lee, Jamal Adams and Sam Darnold. Some of these guys were awful, none are still on the team.

I feel a bit better but still stings. Ah well, sunk cost and all. Hopefully they can trade him and at least get a useful piece back. I think he is going to be good for a different team and different offense.

I liked Sam here, the Jets really screwed him over...hopefully you don't need him but if he's thrust into action he should do much better there

Sam is great on his first read. Seems to get into trouble after that. Having the 49ers running backs will help him. Can't find a man down field just check it down to CMC, Juice, Deebo.

I know we are all wrapped up in Survivor pool right now but any inroads with Anita on our Satsraiser idea. And any thoughts when you would want to do it?
reply
I have not heard from here yet. I sent another email this morning. I would like to do the post Monday. @k00b can you ask her if she has a problem with direct donations to her Stacker News wallet? She doesn't know me but I'm sure she knows you.
reply
You want to do the satsraiser on Monday or just the post making folks aware we are dong it?
reply
Good question. Maybe I'll announce it Monday and do it Tuesday morning. What's your opinion?
reply
Whatever works for you. Tuesday is my daugther's 5th birthday but I don't think we have anything planned until the afternoon/evening so I will be around in the morning/early afternoon.
Seeing the action on the NFL survivor post today. I don't think we need to promote the Satsraiser post if we are zapping 100k sats each. Up to you. Keep in mind there is a 10% fee for zaps which I learned today (always knew there was a fee, didn't realize it was 10% until people zapped 50k sats to survivor address in the span of 5 mins).

What's the best name for what we are doing, in your opinion? If it goes well I would like this to be the first of many. All the names I have thought of sound awkward. Satsraiser isn't bad. I also thought Sats-A-Thon. I don't know. I don't want to get in the way of your daughter's birthday. Maybe Wednesday? Re the 10% fee, I guess I could make it up at the end. An invoice might complicate matters and discourage donations. What do you think?
reply
Satsraiser, Sats-a-thon both good in my book. I think both capture the ethos of what you are trying to do. If you are unsure why not do a poll and have everyone vote on what name is best. That would also put the idea in their heads before you post about it.
Thanks Siggy. I don't feel any better though. Haha
