I wanted to follow up and see how the reward changes feel. We rewarded 137 stackers yesterday which is the highest number in a long time. In part this is due to the reward changes but also the generosity of federated computer.

Just make sure SN is sustainable long term.
reply
Provide the rewards pool with liquidity, and it shouldn't be a problem.
I just hope more people are putting in what others are getting out in rewards.
reply
Amazed with how much I've been getting. I thought it might ave something to do with the 18m sats returned from that bug. So I'm enjoying it while it lasts
reply
We haven't even begun to juice rewards with the forbidden sats yet!
reply
Really?
Well, I've been surprised with how much I've been getting. It IS making me use it more & try to keep my hat
reply
Yep, it's coming from the ad and the reward distribution changes.
reply
Nice, I am getting used to zap even more now.

BTC is the house, and the fiat countries are the punters.
reply
Rewards are definitely better than expected.
reply
The only reward that matters is the time spent with friends.
But I will take more sats if you are offering.
reply
The true reward was the friends we made along the way.
reply
Keep 'em coming...

Kudos to whoever said they're getting too much. I would never complain about "getting too little", but you also won't catch me admitting that "I'm getting too much".
reply
Something I have seen in this space long enough is what happens to Bitcoin companies that specialize in sat rewards to their users. Eventually it is unsustainable and eventually it is lowered. Then the users that were hunting for each and every sat will turn on you. I would keep it strictly "p2p" tbh and abandon rewards all together. Top users should get more in quality content and are incentived to tip quality content in order to keep quality content coming.
reply
It's hard to articulate but it does seem to get β€œuser attention” to another social platform requires some sort of incentive model built in partly because of the ridiculous amount of options a person can share their opinions. Keeping it p2p seems letting off the gas a bit. I think leaving it up to the community to decide is ultimately the right decision at least on sn. I enjoy the rewards but my bigger worry is about the multiple accounts stacking sats and leaving them abandon.
reply
That's fair. History generally does repeat. People do feel the loss of something (e.g. rewards) more than they're likely to feel the gains.
For now most rewards are coming from ads and imo if any revenue should go directly to stackers its the ad revenue. Perhaps that should be the only source of rewards.

This will be a forever debate for the company. Sudden and significant fluctuations in rewards might lead to some kind of doom spiral but IMO the more significant the product value otherwise the lower the risk. (I'm not saying our risk is low.)
reply
I care just a little about rewards as an indicator that my contributions are valued, and that feels good. I zap stuff that seems substantive, and some people do that with me, and the rewards that came from that are financially immaterial, but psychologically consequential.
Do you think anybody really cares about rewards as a way to earn actual money?
reply
I enjoy the thrill of stacking for my contributions to the website regardless of their source. I don't even look at the stats which they make publicly available. People gaming the algorithm are their own worst enemy, and they can "turn on the site". their leaving simply decreasing the noise.

It feels generous at the moment. Almost too generous…. but only almost lol

I'm profiting every day, seems pretty cool

Starting about when I put the SN webapp in my apps list, I actually started earning more than I zapped, but I also engage more.
Did you already explain why you're accepting ads? I feel like perhaps in SNLive but I don't recall what was said
reply
kr thought it'd be a sustainable way to give out more rewards and that that'd be a good thing.
tbh I don't like ads and wouldn't have chosen to do it on my own ... but I give kr (and ek and well anyone who is willing to put in the work) the freedom to test their hypotheses.

at least ads have been implemented incredibly tastefully...subtle but clear, perhaps truly valuable for some people here, and well worth the additional rewards to the community imo! Sat velocity is way up
reply
I had no idea there even were ads. I even saw that nym @ad and it still didn't register that it was an ad.

Many good things about the new reward system but top of my list is the visibility into why one got rewards.
Example:
you earned 45 sats (0.03%) #98 in post zapping for 45 sats
reply
I need to write more to tell :)
reply
Rewards are (currently) paid to those who zap.
You may get what is zapped as upvota for for your writing, but you won't get rewards as well unless you too zap.
reply
Good, Value4Value, I zap back even more now :-)
reply
It's awesome 😎!
Stack SATs, Get Fit is what I always say.
The rewards help me take care of the hard part so I can focus on staying fit.
reply
As a user, I'm obviously very happy about the size of the rewards.
But if I were running the site, I'd worry about the long run behavioral effects when you can easily earn more than you put in just by zapping stuff. It might incentive bot behavior or centralization on zapping certain types of posts
reply
I just came back after a while away and was really glad to see the daily rewards again. πŸ€™

Haven't been here for a hot minute, I'm a bit of a dumbass and I accidentally thought I'd screwed up my method of logging in, before realizing that I hadn't and actually had my e-mail account tied to this the entire time. Glad to see all the good peeps of Stacker News are enjoying getting some juicy sats rewards. I've just topped up le olde Alby wallet with some a fresh supply of them, donating some to the donations pool to spread the love around <3

Rewards feel good due to the recent ads but if/when there aren't ads I'd rather see some tempering of recent posts vs any changes for being early in zapping. Recent posts seem to be very sat-seeking "throw it at the wall and see what sticks". Makes sense for rewarding mods to sort through it but tough if the rewards drop but post volume increases.

lol you're being far too kind to us plebs, where is the yield coming from? :P

The ad system everyone hates! https://stacker.news/ad/all
reply
Not me. I am not here to get rich or assmilking sats. But ads are ok imho. I hope will come more interesting ads. I prefer paid ads instead of spamming with useless tweets or hidden ads in articles pretending to be "free" or shills in disguise.
reply
Do not hate the "ad system".

I don't really care as long as it's fair. I send these sats on to users here and on Nostr.

It's an interesting model that could provide a positive feedback loop leading to more contributors further increasing the value to advertiser's. I saw a couple of people point out that if there's a sudden change or drop in rewards some people may turn on you, but tbh, all the while you're providing a long form forum space like this, the rewards are just a nice little bonus.

I'm still a little sore i lost all those sats in that big exploit a few weeks ago.
