Thanks to everyone who got back to me regarding the survivor pool. We have 15 people committed so far. It should be a fun.
It's the dog days of summer in baseball, and NFL preseason is just beginning. It's a quiet time of year for sport (at least in North America). Soon we will have the playoff push and playoffs in MLB, the NFL regular season in full swing and NBA and NHL getting ready for their new seasons. So, with the slow time of year, I wanted to go in a bit of a different direction here and talk about the sounds of sport. Whether it is the crack of the bat in baseball, the crunch of pads colliding in football, steel blades scraping a clean sheet of ice in hockey:
Shill me the unique sounds of sports that make them instantly identifiable, add joy to or further immerse you in the game.
Sats for all. Bonus sats for rare ones that I hadn't thought of.
Cheers, GR
Sounds of a sport.
Paintballers will have this ingrained in their brains. Beep, beep, beep, beeeep. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
If you haven't watched tournament paintball, give the NXL a go on YouTube. It's a very intense sport.

That's a unique one. Definitely hadn't thought of that.

NBA: Squeaking sneakers and hand slapping ball for an epic block
reply
Yeah squeaking sneakers are definitely one of the iconic sounds that define a sport. You get that in tennis too on hardcourts. Tennis is great for sounds because of the silence of the crowd during play.
reply
I don't even watch tennis, but I can hear it clear as day in my head.
reply
Mine is the absence of sound: The silence in a ball park when a member of the visiting team hits a home run.

Nice. There is nothing more thrilling than the stunned silence of Scotiabank Arena as the Leafs blow another third period lead and lose in the final minute. I am going to be honest though, at this point, I think Leafs fans like being losers. Similar to how Cubs fans adopted the loveable losers ethos before they got good again and won the WS. The difference is leafs fans are far from loveable. More akin to the despisable losers.

I don't want to talk about preseason. Jordan Addison caught it! Sad viking noises.
Even in preseason I can't tolerate losing to the Seahawks... Mate of mine is a Seahawks fan and he's unbearable everytime we play... Even in preseason.
reply
Ugh. I hate the Seahawks. I think they will give the 49ers some competition for the division this year.
