This is a thread for random discussions that gets posted everyday at 5am central.
Tell us what you're doing today, ask questions, or vent about your life. Whatever you want, let it rip!
The contrast of the site is a bit intense for my eyes.
Not sure if it's just me?
If possible, it would be great to have alternative dark mode themes. Like Twitter has, for example.
Just a friendly feature request :-).

I've had this mentioned before. Thanks!

Shipping notification settings ... Still haven't compressed earning notifications but you can at least turn them off. Hoping to find some time tomorrow to do that.

why does the "Daily discussion thread" render right between 7 and 8 in the home page?
since it's kind of pinned/unique I'd rather see it in a reliable position at the top, but maybe you've tried that and it doesn't feel good?
reply
Yeah it didn't feel good.
reply
You have me thinking about moving it to the top and seeing what happens. I think people are missing it.
reply
some place special seems good. would a side rail work or you want to keep that clean? what about a separate tab at the top?
reply
Side rail would require considerable design effort. A separate tab might work.
reply
Fuck me. I just sent the email newsletter without BCCing the list.
If you were in the list I'm so sorry.
reply
There's a newsletter?
reply
Yeah, I post it on here too: #22402 ... I'm currently doing it all manually atm so I haven't added new users to it yet + there's no way to join if you didn't sign up with email + I make mistakes like putting all the recipients in the to: field ... Lots of work to do.

Speaking of which, it would be good to be able to change (add, remove, replace) the login method(s) of an account.
reply
We have a GH issue for improved login stuff. I'm hoping I can figure that out soon.
reply
Holy crap do I feel bad about this.

just don't do it next year and we're all good! šŸ˜

Forgot to boost this post - #22303
@k00b would it be possible to include the boost / forwarding options in the edit panel?
reply
Yes, definitely possible. Just somewhat complicated so I haven't done it yet. There's an issue up on GH for it.
reply
I just did the same; I was actually trying to see if a boost was mandatory...but then, it just...worked (with 0 boost)!
Looks like somebody just spotted you 1K big-ones! You lucked out. We'll never know who it was. Could be anybody. Anybody at all really. lol.
reply
I just did the same as well. I thought there was a mandatory minimum, but both posts went through with 0 sats. Now I can't boost. May just delete and repost later.
reply
Boost is not necessary. That's why it's in the 'options' panel. Is that unclear?

This language pops up...
must be at least 1000
...and it goes red. Unless you remove it completely. Kind of non-standard, or just oddly subjective UX, IMO.
I couldn't reason about why the choice would be from the set {0, 1000, 1001, 1002, ...}. I would have expected any positive integer if it was actually optional.
reply
Hmmm I can see why that'd be confusing. I'm just not sure how to design it otherwise. Any ideas?

...right now, you kind of have like a Schrƶdinger-cat equivalent of a None/Zero.
Maybe subtle change to the form validation logic:
Current:
  • {Negative Integer} -> Red -> "must be at least 1000"
  • {None} -> Yellow -> lets you post
  • {0, ..., 999} -> Red -> "must be at least 1000"
  • {1000, ...} -> Yellow -> lets you post
Proposed:
  • {Negative Integer} -> Red -> "must be 0 or at least 1000"
  • {None, 0} -> Yellow -> lets you post
  • {1, ..., 999} -> Red -> "must be 0 or at least 1000"
  • {1000, ...} -> Yellow -> lets you post
reply
Ah I get it! I just need to say 0 is allowed!
Awesome thank you anonymous booster! šŸ˜

Play to earn is the future of gaming... It's just a matter of time before every gaming company integrates the Bitcoin lightning network...
reply
The P2E that I've seen so far is ... watch some ads, the P2E platform gets paid for those and you get a tiny little fraction of that ad revenue.
And Pay-to-Play-to-Earn (e.g., Axie Infinity) are worse!
reply
Trouble is probably that most gamers are children and integrating lighting wallets in children's games is both illegal and immoral.
reply
Ads in children's games should be considered worse than giving them money.
reply
Totally agree. But monetizing their games isn't exactly "giving" them money, either, is it? It's a complex problem. All those grinder games are pretty immoral, in and of themselves, if you ask me. Now imagine placing a price tag on that. I'm sure there's a benevolent way to do that, but based on the last 10 to 20 years of exploitative behavior in the gaming industry, I seriously doubt that their first move would be benevolent.

My other mantra.
When people ask when are you selling I say once my mortgage lender accepts it for payment and I can become 100% debt free. If not then Iā€™ll HFSP with my Magic internet money. Itā€™s well worth the risk to save humanity from the dark ages of central banking and this debt fueled nonsense
