Just curious what happens when energy becomes free.

Nothing is free.

We already have free energy. Wind, sun, waves.

But it is not free to harvest it. Only plants can harvest free energy for free.

But animals and people need to hunt (spend energy), to harvest energy (in other animals).

A lion has to run to kill a gazelle.

People have to create and buy windmills, solar panels etc.

It costs energy to store energy. You can’t store the solar and wind energy after you produced it just like that. You have to convert it to say hydrogene gas or put it in a battery that somebody has to create.

reply

Plants do not harvest energy for free. Seeds have stored energy from the previous plant and plants have to use water and carbon dioxide to create glucose with that sunlight. That process is not “free”. They need some glucose(sugar) to start with.

As long as preparing a miner to mine and keeping it mining takes a single second of human effort for any reason, mining won't be free and the hash rate won't climb infinitely.

reply

Energy can't be free because even installing machinery to benefit from "free energy" will cost you, so will maintenance

reply

Free energy would destroy the world via a massive black hole moments after someone decides to plug a free energy device into itself

Bitcoin isn't a goal in and of itself. If we had free energy, we probably wouldn't need Bitcoin.

reply

Energy production will never be free, it can merely get cheaper. Bitcoin mining actually can make our energy grid more efficient, which will overall decrease the production of energy by making renewable energy production more stable and by making fossil fuel utilization less polluting.

could breaking the laws of physics compromise bitcoin.

...yu...yes ?

reply

Transporting energy is more expensive than producing it

reply

Energy is one of many dimensions encompassing securing the Bitcoin network.

reply

You still have physical mining hardware needed.

That will put some limit on hash rate.

reply

Well... If I had free energy I'd use it to mine bitcoin. As long as you're able to earn a few sats people will mine

You're a fucking idiot and you should feel bad, dumb arrogant trolling fuck
